On average, it costs a bridesmaid around £408 to have the privilege to stand by their dearest friend as they tie the knot.
In fact, from organising a memorable hen to booking accommodation and buying the right accessories for their dress, the expenses can slowly creep up. But even if the role comes with pressing responsibilities, the reality is that bridesmaids are more than delighted to support you during the preparations and celebrations.
As the bride, it’s only right to thank your bride tribe for all their dedication, as they are likely to have been through all your highs and lows. So what can you do to show how important they are to you? Lake District Country Hotels, owners of luxurious wedding venues in Cumbria and the Lake District, share some tips on making your bridesmaids feel confident and special throughout your wedding journey.
‘Propose’ in a unique way
As you plan your big day, one of the first steps is to ask your closest loved ones to be your bridesmaids. Most people will feel flattered to hear the news that you’d like them to accompany you on this beautiful journey. In this respect, Paul Muresan, hotel manager at Lake District Country Hotels, says there are ways to make this moment even more unforgettable.
“Asking someone to be your bridesmaid is an unforgettable moment, bound to spark tears of joy and tingles of excitement. To make everything even more unique, you may want to ‘propose’ to them in a personalised fashion. For example, you could present them with a proposal box matching the wedding’s theme and their personality.
“If you’ve known one of your bridesmaids since you were only a kid, think about including some pics together from your childhood. Or if you share a favourite musical band, you could add a CD with their best hits.
“Don’t forget to include a heartfelt note, too! Just jot down a short but sweet message that explains why you’d love for them to be your bridesmaid when you marry your better half.”
To avoid awkward silences during the rehearsal dinner, hen do, or the actual wedding ceremony, make sure to introduce them to one another beforehand. If all your maids are acquainted, they will feel more united and have time to form a stronger bond. Once you have picked your bridesmaids, consider organising a meal or a night out where they can get to know each other. With laughs, smiles, and wine flowing, it is easier to spur brand-new friendships!
If they are scattered across the country, and distance is proving to be an annoying hurdle, make the most of social media. You could set up a WhatsApp group chat or arrange a joint video call – this is a quick, effective way to get everyone talking.
Listen to their opinions
Another way to make your bridesmaids feel special is to involve them in the wedding planning process. Your loved ones will want you to have the best experience possible, so ask for ideas and opinions as you perfect your event.
You may even want to delegate specific tasks based on their areas of interest. Whether it’s suggestions for the menu, flower arrangements, or their bridesmaid dresses, they might be able to offer you some much-needed inspiration and come up with a winning idea that you never contemplated!
Of course, you may not agree with all the opinions they are bringing to the table. But don’t make the mistake of dismissing their suggestions from the off if they are not what you had in mind. As well as potentially discarding a good idea, your bridesmaids might start to feel a tad underappreciated. And let’s be honest – you wouldn’t want to upset a loved one who is just trying to help.
It is crucial to take time out during the preparations to chill and unwind. So why not do just that with your bridesmaids? For example, you could book a magical spa day to keep the stress and worries at bay.
On a tight budget? Don’t worry! You can opt for a relaxing night in with your gang and pop a bottle of bubbly with some reinvigorating face masks on. Not only will this help you all wind down, but it will also show your bride tribe that you care about them and appreciate all they are doing for you in the build-up to the big day.
You can hand them a personalised gift to make them feel extra special, too. Whether it’s a piece of jewellery or a meal at a restaurant they particularly like, treating them to a little something can go a long way and truly cement your affection for one another.
