Q&A Beauty Look and feel your big-day best with help from the experts WINTER BLUES I’m getting married in January, but my skin always looks a bit dull, dry and lack-lustre in the winter. What can we do with my make-up to combat this so I can have the bridal glow I’ve dreamed of even during the ravages of the season? Make-up artist Rebecca Jones (www.rebeccajonesmakeup.com) says: It’s possible to achieve glowing make-up, even in the depths of winter. First and foremost, a consistent skincare routine is essential. I always advise my clients to consult a skin therapist before diving into a new routine and starting it months in advance of the wedding. If your wedding-day complexion is a top priority, you could look into professional treatments, such as a HydraFacial. Gentle exfoliation, cleansing with a milk or balm, and boosting hydration is a good place to start. Don’t forget to use a nourishing lip balm, such as the Laneige Lip Mask. All of this will provide a great base for make-up and ensure there’s no flaky areas that will be emphasised once the products are applied. For my winter brides, I like to begin with NARS Light Reflecting Foundation. I’ll then layer over a creamy bronzer, blush and a liquid highlighter. Typically, I recommend powdering the centre of your face with a loose powder and a triangle puff, however you can keep the radiance by misting a setting spray over the top. I love the Hourglass Ambient Lighting powders as a finishing touch in winter as they give a luminous sheen. During the day, give yourself an occasional spritz with a hydrating spray to keep the glow topped up. This also helps with longevity. I like MAC Fix + as it also comes in a travel size. JUST BROW-SING My brows are thin, pale and unruly. I’d love them to frame my face for my bridal look. What would you suggest? Make-up artist Natalie Willingham (www.nataliewillingham.co.uk) says: For brows like yours I love a laminated brow treatment. Essentially it’s a perm for your brows; each hair is tamed into a lifted and smooth shape. Add a tint and shape, so that all those tiny, very pale hairs surrounding your brows will be coloured providing the illusion of fullness. For extra definition and fullness add some natural looking hair strokes with a brow pen such as Glossier Brow Flick, Anastasia Beverly Hills Superfine Micro-Stroking Detail Brow Pen, Urban Decay Brow Blade 2in1 Eyebrow Pen and Waterproof Pencil or NYX Professional Makeup Lift and Snatch Brow Tint Pen. Book your first brow treatment on recommendation and well in advance of your wedding day. Once you’re happy with your beauty therapist as well as the colour and shape of your brows post treatment, book a schedule that ensures they look amazing in the run up to your wedding day. For a little extra help consider a brow growth serum such as UK Brow or Revita Lash Revita Brow Advanced Serum. 66
