Your Yorkshire Wedding - September/October 2024 (Issue 68)

PICTURE PERFECT Photographer Scott Anliffe (www.scottantcliffephoto. co.uk) says: Reflecting your autumnal wedding theme in your photography can create stunning, memorable images that capture the essence of the season. To achieve this, consider choosing outdoor settings that showcase autumnal foliage at your venue. Rustic barns can also provide a perfect backdrop for autumn-themed shots. Plan for golden hour photography to take advantage of the warm, rich light that’s characteristic of this time of year. Incorporating autumnal colours in your attire, bouquets, and decor will further enhance the seasonal feel in your photos. When being photographed in autumn, it’s important to be prepared for unpredictable weather. Have indoor backup locations ready and consider having clear umbrellas on hand for rainy day shots. Keep in mind that autumn days are shorter, so work with your photographer to plan your timeline accordingly. You might want to consider warmer options for outdoor shoots, such as elegant shawls or jackets. Knowing the sunset time is crucial for maximising natural light opportunities and having a location in mind before certainly helps. SEASONAL TIPS Your Yorkshire Wedding editor Kelly Andrews says: I love the autumn. It’s my favourite season by far. It’s partly the immense relief of summer coming to an end and the fact that Christmas is just over the horizon! The perfect blend of the cooler climate with pleasantly warm days that often take us into September, it’s the ideal time of year to get married. Sure, your classic burnt orange with brown tones is a wonderful palette to opt for at this time of year; especially when you combine it with the oh-so on trend Pantone Colour of the year Peach Fuzz. But what about thinking outside the box a little? I love a dark, rich red or burgundy highlight combined with blush and sage green. Or go for this year’s trend of going all-out vibrant with bright zesty orange hot pink. Either way considering the colours of nature at this time of year is a great place to begin. Pair with oh-so romantic candlelight (venue permitting) with candles in your chosen colours for a magical ambience. There are few practical pointers you’ll need to think about during this season too, particularly if you’re looking at the latter part towards November. Namely, the nights drawing in and the clocks going back in October mean you’ll have less natural daylight to play with. Consider opting for an earlier ceremony time, so you can embrace more of the great outdoors. With the potential weather challenges at this time of year comes the additional consideration of what to wear. If it’s likely to be a bit chilly when you head outside and this is a great excuse to bag one of those fun and funky painted and personalised bridal denim or leather jackets. I’d be tempted to tie the knot in the autumn, just so I can wear one! Similarly, bear in mind that your guests are likely to turn up in coats, so ensure your venue can offer a cloakroom so they aren’t slung over your chair backs ruining the look of your reception hall. www.scottantcliffephoto.co.uk BLOOMIN’ BEAUTIFUL Liz Wood from The Watering Can Florist (www.thewateringcanflorist.co.uk) says: Autumn is an excellent time to enhance your wedding with stunning seasonal flowers. The palette of rich colours including burnt orange, deep reds, and lustrous golds, along with a touch of crimson, creates a perfect combination. In addition to beautiful flowers, incorporating fruits such as blackberries, conkers, beechnuts, and naturally, pumpkins can add a characterful touch to your wedding décor. Large branches in shades of brown and red can be used to create a magnificent archway, ideal for an unforgettable photo backdrop. Tandem X Visuals on Unsplash 52
