Your Yorkshire Wedding - July/August 2024 (Issue 67)

Each one was served in an individual dome for each guest that contained an edible chocolate lemon slice. She’d also had the idea to make limoncello ice pops for guests to enjoy with prosecco on arrival. They were displayed in a big bucket and as everyone gathered, water was poured over it creating a dry ice effect. It was even lemon scented! “We really hit the jackpot with our chosen suppliers, each one of them really gave their all to create our dream wedding,” Jess shares. Further sweet treats were provided by Ashleigh of Scrumbcakes who made a small, single-tier cake with cupcakes decorated with buttercream flowers designed to match the ones hand-painted on the bride’s dress. “Enjoy the planning, it’s such an exciting time but it also gets crazy overwhelming. So, take time together away from the business of it all and remind yourselves what the wedding is truly about.” CELEBRATE IN STYLE The couple chose live band On The One to entertain guests who took them from cocktail hour with an acoustic set, right through to late-night with the party tunes. “They added such an atmosphere to the day, and got everyone up dancing all night long to a bespoke set list they’d built around our favourite songs,” Jess says. They even let the groom perform a song with them! Jess hired an arcade machine for Martyn as a surprise for the evening reception. “Even on our wedding day he wouldn’t let me win,” she says. MEMORABLE MOMENTS “As cliched as it sounds, it truly was the best day of our lives to date,” Jess says. “After all the planning and dreaming, it was even more than we could have imagined. There’s no feeling like experiencing all the different parts of your wedding day side by side with the people you love most in one room, there to support and celebrate with you.” For Jess and Martyn, choosing to have a celebrant conduct their ceremony was the best decision they could have made. “It meant that we were able to have a more casual but very personal service,” Jess explains. “Our celebrant, Tracy, created a beautiful, intimate atmosphere and she wrote a script that had us, and our guests, in tears one moment, and in fits of laughter the next. We’ll never forget listening as she recounted our love story and shared memories of our journey that led us to our wedding day, many of which even our closest friends and family were hearing for the first time.” Tracy also included a wine box ceremony element before the main event. Guests each wrote a letter to the future Jess and Martyn, and the couple wrote one to each other. These were all placed in a locked box with a bottle of their favourite wine to be enjoyed when they open the box and read the letters on their first anniversary. “Someone else who must be mentioned is the brilliant duo that was our photographer Emilia, and our videographer Kurt,” Jess says. “They surprised us with a bottle of Champagne to spray and a green smoke bomb to play around with. Not only did they make for some great pictures but we had such a laugh.” 22
