Your Yorkshire Wedding - July/August 2023 (Issue 61)

Q&A Beauty Our experts answer your summer hair and beauty dilemmas FIGHT THE FRIZZ How can I stop my hair from becoming a frizzy mess at our summer wedding? Worrying about the humidity creating frizzy hair is understandable, but there’s plenty you can do to help. Preparations can start a few months ahead by using a professionally recommended shampoo and conditioner, so speak to your bridal hair specialist for the brand they advise works best for your locks. If possible, avoid using heat on your hair a month before your wedding, turning the dial down and considering ‘heat as a treat’. On the day style your hair dry, using a texture spray to further prevent frizz. Next, use an anti-frizz smoothing cream, applying sparingly a section at a time, before styling and finishing with a small amount of anti-frizz serum or argan oil to the ends of the hair. Of course, so long as you remember that as with any bridal make-up, skin prep is key. Make sure you are well hydrated and have been drinking plenty of water. If you’ve oily skin invest in an oil-free, hydrating moisturiser/primer. Foundation-wise, choose the correct shade if you tan well and buy a good setting powder. A good waterproof mascara is also a must, as is setting spray; asking a professional makeup artist what one they’d choose for you. When it comes to the actual day, get ready in a cool room that’s not too crowded. Take a handheld fan with you and if you find yourself in direct sun try to at least keep your face in the shade. If you sweat, be sure to dab and don’t wipe! The less contact you have with your face the longer your make-up will stay in place.
