Your Yorkshire Wedding - July/August 2023 (Issue 61)

LOVE IN LEEDS We’re struggling to find a venue in Leeds centre to get our guests talking! We want something stylish but different from the norm. What can you suggest? In the heart of Leeds City Centre lies a hidden jewel! Leeds Library is the oldest library of its kind in the UK, and to step into its Georgian Grade II listed building is to step back in time over 200 years, leaving the bustle of the modern world behind. This unique venue is available for ceremonies with up to 88 guests. The 150-year-old New Room provides the setting for intimate and atmospheric ceremonies; and the galleries, spiral staircases, sash windows, window seats, book-lined office and reading room are the perfect backdrop for lovers of both books and history. What can I do? Please don’t stress too much, as the adrenaline you’ll naturally be creating on the day will keep you warm anyway. The best thing to do in this situation is think about adding something to complement your gown, while knowing you’ll stay warm during your service. This can be anything from a veil, in a single or double tier, to a bolero or jacket in a fabric like lace or faux fur. These give coverage and warmth if you’re chilly, as well as letting you remove it at night to dance the night away! Some brides choose to be a little more casual and wear a cool denim or leather jacket; whereas if you’re looking for real drama, why not go for a full length fur cape? Do you have any suggestions? There are many ways to make the music at your wedding unique and different from the norm. Incorporating traditional folk music from your cultural heritage can be a great way to pay homage to your roots and add some personal touches to your celebration. Alternatively, a surprise act such as our Love Actually Band is a brilliant way to add colour to your celebrations. Another idea would be to incorporate some of your more daring guests in a musical flash mob! You can even hire a live band that plays a genre of music that’s not typically heard at weddings. The back catalogue of Aqua may be considered a bit lame by most but if you like it go for it, as everybody secretly loves a bit of Dr Jones and Barbie Girl!
