Your Yorkshire Wedding - January/February 2021 (Issue 46)

ROUND TWO – PUTTING YOUR STAMP ON. TIERS AND SPRINKLES What should couples consider before booking their cake artist? ❤ Don’t finalise your cake until you’ve made your major wedding decisions, as you’ll want the design to suit your venue, season, gown, flowers and the menu. ❤ Arrive at your consultation prepared. If you’re looking for a custom design, bring along inspiration such as a swatch of lace from your dress, an invitation or a photo of your flowers. How can you help couples adapt their day during the pandemic? ❤ Give yourself options. If you need to postpone, it’s a good idea to have a few different dates in mind so you can ask your suppliers which they have available. All being well, there will be at least one date they can all reschedule to – and that date was clearly meant to be! ❤ If you’ve had to reduce your guest numbers, consider asking the venue to slice up your cake into individual cake slice boxes with pre-addressed labels so you can post them to those who were unable to attend – at least they’ll get to experience a slice of your day. Katie Harker | www.tiersandsprinkles.co.uk SWEET CHIC What should couples consider before booking their cake designer? ❤ Look for a cake designer that takes an interest and is passionate about your vision, as well as someone who designs and creates cakes that excite you and opens your mind to new ideas. Most importantly, you need to trust them to create a showstopper cake for your special day. ❤ Your cake should express your personality and style. Let your cake designer guide you, and don’t be afraid to explore alternative coverings, details and designs, whether that’s a decadent dessert table, edible centrepieces or a tiered cake wrapped in solid chocolate. How can you help couples adapt their day during the pandemic? ❤ As much as it’s agonising, postponing is also an opportunity to revisit your choices and perhaps add those details that the budget didn’t previously allow. If you’re downsizing, you may feel you no longer need that five-tier cake, but if you still want the scale, then talk to your designer about artificial tiers. Alternatively, look at a more personalised offering such as dessert tables, personalised treats or an edible display. This will create a talking point and an intimate wedding full of personal touches. Helen Birkinshaw | www.sweetchic.co.uk THE FLOWER SHOP SOUTH ELMSALL What should couples consider before booking their florist? ❤ Don’t think you can leave booking your florist to the last minute, most good florists get booked up well in advance and will limit how many weddings they do in one day. Choose a reputable supplier who can work with you to achieve the style of wedding you dream of. ❤ If a couple has a budget, we will work with them and make suggestions to help them achieve this. We create florals based on your requirements, rather than offering a set package. How can you help couples adapt their day during the pandemic? ❤ If you have to scale down your wedding, make sure you communicate with your florist to get their help to accommodate these changes. For postponements, we will simply transfer everything to your new date to make it as easy as possible.
