Your Yorkshire Wedding - November/December 2020 (Issue 45)
Our experts solve your wedding dilemmas HOT TOPIC FESTIVE TREATS We’re having a Christmas-themed wedding. How can we reflect this in our cake design and flavour choices? Christmas is a magical time of year and it provides tremendous inspiration for cakes. You have endless colours and options available, from classic sparkly white to rich red and green or even a novelty design. You could also go for a rustic naked or semi-naked creation dressed with seasonal fruits and flowers. Pine cones are a fantastic addition to any Christmas-themed design, and can be coloured, painted or glittered to match your scheme. Christmas ornaments can also be lovely additions, such as glass tress or baubles. Don’t forget to finish the look off by dressing the table with fresh greenery and holly. When it comes to flavours, think traditional fruit cake soaked in brandy or dark rum, cinnamon spiced carrot cake or rich chocolate and chestnut. For a lighter option, consider a tropical fruit cake or an orange and cranberry sponge. Flowers are an integral part of your day, providing a focal point for photographs and something to bring together the colour scheme and styling. At Ecoblooms we create flowers from donated plastic bottles, providing an eco-friendly, sustainable and everlasting option. There’s no need for vases of water and they’re surprisingly light yet sturdy to move around. I can make flowers that are out of season and ones you wouldn’t find in nature – rose gold anemones or rainbow roses perhaps? My flowers can be ordered well in advance, so you can relax and get on with planning knowing your flowers are ready to go. They can withstand hot or cold days and there are no wilting flowers to throw away at the end of the night. Not only are Ecoblooms a sustainable option, they also reduce costs by repurposing your florals throughout the day. For example, your bridesmaids’ bouquets can become cake table decorations before being given as thank you gifts. Why not use your table decorations as favours too? You can collect jars or vases and I’ll fill them with flowers to suit the theme, which can be taken home by your loved ones.
