Your Yorkshire Wedding - September/October 2020 (Issue 44)
BEHIND THE LENS There are so many amazing wedding photographers. How do we narrow down the search and choose the one that’s right for us? You’ll find many professionals with their own styles, so first of all you need to decide on the style of imagery and how you want your wedding day to be – we’ve all been to weddings where the photographer has taken over the day! I concentrate on capturing moments and being as unobtrusive as possible, which leaves you to be with your family and friends to enjoy your wedding day. I love capturing emotion and laughter and telling a very real story of your day. I will, of course, photograph a handful of family shots and relaxed ones of you as newlyweds, but most of what I capture is natural. Always ask to see a full album from one wedding, rather than just the photographer’s highlights, to ensure they’re consistent in producing great images throughout the day. Always try to meet or have a video chat to make sure you get on well with them too. Ruth Mitchell | Ruth Mitchell Photography | www.weddingsalive.co.uk A GRAND AFFAIR We’ve booked a traditional marquee for our wedding, but now I’m worried it won’t have the luxury feel I want. How can we style it to give some opulence? Marquee weddings are an amazing choice for larger receptions year-round. They’re the perfect blank canvas for you to create your own special venue. Styling a marquee to add some opulence will start with focusing your design on a visually appealing entrance. This is the first thing your guests will see so it’s imperative to set the tone. To add wow factor, you could lay a beautiful stone pathway adorned with gorgeous blooms and lined with flickering candles. The beauty of this type of setting is you can project on to it your wildest dreams for your big day. Inside, you may want to add a few focal points such as a beautiful custom bar in the centre, as well as a stunning lounge area to add instant drama. Also, adding some exquisite hanging floral installations will give your design some impact. Lastly, lighting is key in creating the right ambience. Incorporate lots of twinkling lights and uplighters for a sense of drama and romance.
