LOOKING FORWARD Leeds wedding venue Wharfedale Grange has paid tribute to our heroic NHS staff and key workers by illuminating the barn in NHS-blue light, to be seen from all around the local area. “It was important to us to salvage some positives from the situation,” Zachary Williamson says. “We’ve also been working hard to create a framework in which we can postpone our couples’ weddings free of charge. Our team have worked around the clock to find alternative dates and arrangements for all our brides and grooms.” In addition, the team that live on-site have been maintaining the venue and grounds of the estate and adding new features so the setting will be even better than ever. “Our cleaning team have also put in place strict cleaning and disinfection protocols for when restrictions lift,” Zachary adds. Drawing closer to the date, excitement turned to stress as uncertainty grew because of the coronavirus outbreak. On the eve of their wedding, the prime minister addressed the nation and explained that restaurants and pubs needed to close. This meant the venue could not host their celebration, and the guests who were travelling to be there had to return home. The Coniston’s senior wedding coordinator, Sharon Hurst, had a plan. “I could see how devastated the couple were that they couldn’t celebrate with their friends and family,” Sharon says. “But the worst thing was not becoming husband and wife.” Sharon set about planning a pared-back day with just a registrar and a few key suppliers, which adhered to guidelines. “It wasn’t the day we planned for, but it was still our dream wedding,” Lorien says. “We can’t thank The Coniston enough for making it happen. The room was beautifully decorated and we even had some fizz to celebrate and photographs overlooking the beautiful estate.” Head to www.theconistonhotel.com http://www .paulchantrey.co.uk 10
