Your Yorkshire Wedding - Mar/Apr 2020 (Issue 41)
46 Standedge Tunnel Visitor Centre was the perfect blank canvas. The staff were very flexible, we had exclusive use, the setting is beautiful and we loved that we could arrive by boat! On the tables, we had simple Kilner mason jars filled with blooms. We had grazing platters for our wedding breakfast so we had to make sure there was plenty of room. There was a centre table, rather than a top table, with a copper candelabra centrepiece. We also hung paper pom poms, fans and fairylights overhead. We didn’t have a theme, instead just going with our instincts and what we liked. There was a pink and navy colour scheme, which ran through our beautiful flowers. We sent some pictures and ideas to our florist and requested that Guernsey freesias were included; what she created was better than we could have imagined. The cake was made by an old school friend of mine, Laura. She used to run a cake company and had stopped taking orders, but she agreed to make ours. It was great catching up and designing our three-tier bake with delicious layers of fruit, Victoria sponge and carrot cake. It was decorated in a lace pattern to match my dress and finished with a Lego cake topper. 46
