Your Yorkshire Wedding - July/August 2019 (Issue 37)

REAL WEDDINGS 29 L ouise and Andrew Haithwaite met in the most modern of ways – Tinder! “We were chatting every day for a good month or so before we met in person,” Louise remembers. “When we finally met face to face it was so special. I even opened his car door into a tree and dented it but it didn’t put him off!” Later on in their relationship, Louise took a job performing in Grease on a cruise ship for a year. Six months in, Andrew went to visit her on the ship. Despite saying that he never wanted to get married, he had a special question to ask. “He got down on one knee in my cabin and proposed with the most beautiful ring – it fitted perfectly,” Louise says. “He said that being apart for so long made him realise he wanted to be with me forever. He’d already asked my dad’s permission, which meant a lot.” Back at home, they set the date for an autumnal wedding on 28 th October, 2018. Louise tells us how they planned their dream day… SETTING THE SCENE The pair started the search for dog-friendly venues as they were keen to have their beloved pup, Poppy, at the wedding. “We viewed Dunedin House as they allow pets in the grounds,” Louise explains. “We soon found out that East Riding registrars don’t allow dogs in the ceremony, but we had already fallen for the venue. We visited it in October when all the leaves were on the ground and it was simply stunning.” Keen to reflect the beauty of the season, they chose a palette of oranges, yellows and reds to run throughout the styling. “The centrepieces were pretty roses in my late grandmother’s 1940s teacups,” the bride says. “We placed them on top of vintage books because I love to read and wrapped sheet music around glass bottles to reflect my profession as a singer and actress.” The pair chose artificial blooms so they could keep them as a memento. The bride got crafty and created a nature-inspired table plan. “I used a vintage-style frame decorated with hessian and seasonal flowers and foliage,” Louise tells us. “We named the tables after woodland animals as we love the great outdoors.” Place names were handwritten by the talented Bird House Calligraphy, and guests were each given a Macmillan Cancer Support pin badge as favours, a charity close to the couple’s hearts. Not being big sweet fans, Louise and Andrew opted instead for a cheese and pork pie cake. “It had delicious layers of our favourite cheeses and pies,” she says. “We topped it with a wooden carving of us and Andrew’s daughter – AUTUMN LEAVES Louise and Andrew’s wedding was accented with a gorgeous seasonal palette Images courtesy of Aden Priest Photography 
