Q&A Fashion & Beauty Local experts offer advice on how to look your big-day best THE PERFECT FIT I have a very full bust. What dress styles will suit me and how can I get the right support? We quite often get asked about bust sizes and our first reply is always, please don’t worry. We can alter any dress to suit your bust, regardless of how well blessed you are in that department! If you want to go for something that requires minimal adjustment, we have found that subtle V necklines tend to work better than a deep plunge or a standard sweetheart. Square necklines are also popular and cowls and scoops are coming back this year. If you have your heart set on a sweetheart, it’s not a problem; we can just build up the top a little to suit your comfort level. The one thing we tend to advise brides with a bigger bust is to avoid a strapless gown. The main reason for this is that we don’t want a bride to have to feel like they have to constantly pull their dress up or can only dance with one hand in the air for fear of exposing themselves mid-dance! In terms of support, we always swap out the cups that come with the dress and instead get our seamstress to put in your own-size bust cups. These can then be positioned to give you as much support and comfort as possible without the need for a bra. Another option is to also raise the back of the gown to build the straps up to make them thicker. We can also line the straps to make them more conformable or insert boning or a corset to really give you that fully supported feel. Jennifer Jamieson www.avamaybridal.com AS PRETTY AS A FLOWER We’re having a country garden wedding in the spring and I’d love to appear fresh-faced and dewy. How do I achieve this? Dewy make-up, like all make-up, begins with skincare. Setting the scene for the finished look means considering each product’s importance to the overall finish. Opt for hydrating toners, serums, moisturisers and primers before the all-important foundation. For a fresh look, opt for some lightreflecting technology in a liquid foundation and avoid products that promise a matte finish. Keep to cream and liquid blushes, bronzers and highlighters; they are your friends for this type of make-up and will ensure your skin has a youthful texture. Experiment with illuminating drops to add a sheen to the high points of your face, which will catch the outdoor natural light. You can choose ones with a shimmer, colour-shifting pigments, or simply opt for one that adds a glossy finish. When using powders to bronze or sculpt, I love to use products with some transparency to colour wash without adding heaviness to the skin. This keeps the skin looking natural and doesn’t take away from the light-as-air qualities we’ve tried so hard to achieve in the previous steps. Lastly, avoid the overuse of powders to set the look and instead rely more on finishing and setting mists. This will keep your make-up in place without dulling your look.
