The cake was made up of three tiers and was covered in large sugar flowers to match our colour scheme. All the layers w ere vanilla sponge layered with seedless raspberry jam and va nilla buttercream. Jeannette’s Great Cakes coated it in white ch ocolate ganache and smooth white icing. Our big-day blooms were from A&S Flower Studio. We chose long and low arrangements with trailing eucalyptus foliage and bear grass for the tables. We were very careful with the table plan. With so few guests, round tables were not an option and we knew it needed to be socially distanced. We had a sweetheart table at the top, two long tables down each side and another along the bottom. Everyone could see and hear each other, it almost felt like a large Christmas gathering, which after the year we experienced, was emotional in itself. Most of our favours had our date on, and I knew it was a risk, but it felt like we were throwing the date out into the universe to see the response. Failing that I would have needed a lot of Tipp-Ex! As the wedding was so much smaller than we had originally planned, I had a lot of fun with the finer details. Each guest had a favour box alongside a treat from Quintessential Cookies & Cakes. Each box contained marriage advice cards, personalised pens, a candle, shots, scratch cards, sweets and mints. There was also lapel pins for each guest as we donated to CLIC Sargent in memory of my younger brother, Phillip, who passed away in 2007. Ian and I planned to get married on 31 st July, 2021. We were going to have a large wedding with 150 people, but as the world changed throughout 2020, we realised that the most important thing was that we wanted to get married. I set about looking for a venue and found the Intimate Package at Stanhill Court Hotel, and it was just perfect. I called and spoke to Louise, the wedding coordinator, and we were there looking at the venue two hours later! The entrance hall made the perfect backdrop for photos, and the high ceilings felt very grand. 52
