REAL WEDDINGS 45  K im and Steven met at work. “We were in the planning department at Elmbridge Borough Council,” says Kim. “Steven had worked there for a few months, and I started in October 2007 straight out of college. There was an instant spark between us, and we slowly fell in love.” Steven popped the question on Kim’s 30 th birthday. “We went to The Vineyard Hotel and Spa in Newbury,” explains the bride. “Steven had wrapped the ring box, and I opened it thinking it was a birthday present.” SETTING THE SCENE “We had stayed at the Brooklands Hotel before and loved its Art Deco décor and rich history,” shares Kim. “The location was easy for our guests to find and the staff were friendly and extremely helpful.” The lovebirds chose a travel theme for their nuptials. “For our favours, we gave our nearest and dearest miniature suitcases,” adds the bride. “Each one contained chocolates and a personalised heart.” The couple’s big-day bake was from Marks & Spencer. “We opted for a simple design that was made up of fruit, chocolate and sponge,” explains Kim. “It was four tiers and embellished with gorgeous flowers.” They named their tables after cities that they had visited together. “Our centrepieces were large martini glasses,” shares the bride. “Each one contained blooms that tied in with our pink colour scheme. We decorated the room with letters, fairylights, lanterns, tea lights, a postbox, chair covers and silk bows.” Kim hired a 1960s Mustang Shelby GT500 as a surprise for Steven. “I wanted to give him a special gift,” shares Kim. “He was so happy, and it looked great in the photographs.” DRESSED TO IMPRESS Kim chose a beautiful gown from The Bridal Room in Horsell. “I loved the detailing and combination lace,” shares the bride. “It had embroidered flowers and diamantés. The back was fastened with buttons and I had bespoke lace sleeves added to it. I omitted a veil in favour of a tiara which was passed down through the family.” The groom and groomsmen opted for outfits from Moss Bros. “Steven was inspired by James Bond’s suit in the film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service ,” explains Kim. “They wore black lounge jackets, grey striped trousers, buff waistcoats, pink ties, white shirts, black shoes and pocket squares.” The bridesmaids chose pink gowns from Marks & Spencer. “The dress could be worn multiple ways,” adds the bride. “I left it to each
