LET’S NEVER STOP FALLING IN LOVE Jane and Matt’s romance has taken them around the world Images courtesy of Eleanor Joy J ane met Matt at a mutual friend’s birthday party in Shanghai, where they were both living at the time. “I’m originally from Canada and immediately noticed Matt’s cute British accent, sweet smile and how he loved to talk about cooking yummy dishes,” recalls Jane. Matt said he felt Jane’s presence in the room before he even got a chance to speak with her. “We had a mutual attraction and energy between us!” After clearly finding each other’s soulmate, a year later Matt popped the question while they were visiting her parents for a fun few weeks on Vancouver Island. “One day after having lunch at a pub in downtown Victoria, and after my mom and I had left to do some shopping, Matt secretly spoke with my dad to ask his permission to marry me. It was at the same time that he also got a notification that the ring he’d ordered (a maple leaf diamond) was ready to be picked up just down the street, so the two of them went to retrieve it – completely unbeknownst to my mom and I. “A week later, the day before my birthday, he whisked me away in my dad’s car to the Oak Bay Beach hotel, just on the edge of Vancouver Island, for what I thought was a romantic night away. After massages, a swim in the pool, strawberries and champagne, we found ourselves sitting by an open fire, listening to songs by our favorite band Pink Martini in our hotel robes. Before I knew it Matt pulled me up for a slow dance by the fire. He then looked at me and said, ‘I’m glad I pulled you up so I could do this…’ – he knelt down, took out a tiny box with a ring and opened it to say, ‘Will you marry me?’ I said yes! It was perfect – we hugged, cried and stood there, over-looking the beautiful ocean view, barefoot and dripping wet in our towels. The next day, we were able to celebrate our engagement (on my birthday) with my parents at their home.” The big date was set, 2 nd June 2018, with Glenmore House, Surbiton setting the scene.
