Your Surrey Wedding - Apr/May 2019 (Issue 76)

106 BEAUTIFULLY BESPOKE I can’t find the dress of my dreams so I’ve decide to go bespoke. What shall I take with me to the initial consultation? Terry says: Before you embark on the wonderful experience of having your dream dress made for you. I’d strongly recommend you put together a moodboard; not only will you have lots of fun, you will feel totally creative, super organised and most of all you will be focused. First of all collect pictures of everything you love, photos, tear sheets from magazines and include pics of venues, hairstyles, jewellery, flowers, accessories, bridesmaids, other weddings – anything that makes you feel ‘ooh’ inside. Add swatches of fabrics, laces and embellishments and colour swatches. Paint colour charts are fabulous for this. And, really importantly, print or cut out words that describe what you feel is your ‘look’ such as vintage, romantic or classic. Lay them all out on your moodboard, giving priority to anything you may have already bought or booked such as a venue. Then add your dress ideas. The board should now set the mood for how you feel. Making it easier for others to understand. Take this everywhere when discussing your wedding. Especially to the first appointment when meeting a designer/maker to discuss. All you need to know is does this person really ‘get you’. If yes, you can relax and leave it to them. You may wish to consider what underwear you have on as you’ll need suitable support and shaping. You won’t need shoes at this stage, but a rough idea of heel height would help, but not essential. Give yourself plenty of time before the wedding. Easily six months, longer if you can. Go to your appointments excited and have fun, every fitting should be amazing. Terry Fox | Couture wedding dress designer | terryfox.co.uk Q&A Fashion & Beauty HAIR RAISING ISSUES I adore plaits and braids but I’m worried about them looking too structured for a bridal do. What do you suggest? Amy says: I love braids and plaits and there’s so many variations. One obvious style or theme that would lend itself well for braids is the boho look. Anything from a loose, side fishtail maybe with some fresh flowers woven through, or a halo braid would work wonders in long hair. For mid-length or shorter hair, soft waves with a one or two-side French plait secured with a beautiful hairpiece or clip can look really classy. Once a braid has been structured you can tease it out and fan it with your fingers. Products for these kind of styles are key. One of my go-to items is a dry shampoo or Schwarzkopf Osis Texture Dust It, is really versatile. Lightly dust this product, or anything similar, from the roots and rub your fingers through to the ends. Salt spray is also really underrated, it’s fabulous for creating volume and texture on a number of styles. What do you suggest?  Sally says: A boho bride can easily reflect an effortless, free spirited, romantic style by allowing hair to flow freely, loosely scooped in a small section with a bespoke pin or comb. This would look amazing if dreamily beaded with classic pearls, crystals, ribbon or flowers or a combination to reflect your individual style. Some meaningful personal touches can be discretely woven in such as tiny Swarovski butterflies or hearts, or you could pick out favourite elements of your dress which could be incorperated in the hair decoration. I like to take time to chat with the bride to find out her preferences and what is important to her so she can feel completely happy about the overall decorative effect she wishes to achieve on her special day. The bride can keep these special combs, pins and jewellery items for memories of her perfect day! Sally Greenwood | Jewellery designer | sallyjanegreenwood@hotmail.com
