Your Surrey Wedding - Feb/Mar 2019 (Issue 75)

Slice as nice Be inspired by 2019 wedding cake trends A mongst millennials, many wedding traditions are falling by the wayside; making your wedding as personal and as quirky as possible it now the new norm. However, one finer detail that seems set to stick around is having a wedding cake. Yes, the initial concept of the cake has changed, step forward entire dessert tables and savoury cheese cakes with chutneys instead. But the sentiment is still the same, a big-day bake for you to share as newlyweds – we’ll raise a slice to that! Like with any aspect of wedding planning, it can be overwhelming deciding on a theme, colour scheme and concept. Looking to the 2019 wedding trends for cake designs, these can provide inspiration for your wedding bake so we’ve chatted to local professionals to find out what they are. CAKES LAKE THOMAS CAKES “After two royal weddings, lemon and elderflower became a popular flavour as did sugar flowers and foliage, and an increase request for a buttercream finish.” shares Shenaz of Lake Thomas Cakes (ltcakes.co.uk ). “So for 2019, I foresee the continuation of tall cakes decorated with a blend of sugar and fresh flowers as they can suitably accompany each other. “With tall cakes, opulence comes to mind, flowers whether they are sugar or fresh can heighten the grandeur, as can edible lace, stencilling, moulded pieces and royal iced embellishments would also increase the luxurious effect. “Naked and semi naked cakes seem to be popular as these can be served as a dessert in a variety of flavours. “Whilst metallic colours were a trend last year, this year gold would appear significantly more as this gives the expression of luxury. Nonetheless, I also feel pastel hues will continue to appear as these can blend into any décor or theme. “Roses are still a popular flower, but there has been a move for other big flowers, such as ranunculus, David Austin Roses, peonies (whether they are open or closed) and foliage – reflective of the floral arrangements. “Couples should be bold and have what they want. I love to see crazy, wacky ideas on wedding cakes like something bold blended into something subtle. Perhaps in 2019 we’ll see the continuation of the half and half cakes.” 73
