Your Surrey Wedding - October/November 2024 (Issue 109)

For our winter wedding, we’d love to include Christmas music but we’re worried it will come across as ‘cheesy’; how can we have the festive feel while keeping is classy. Wedding singer Abigail Scott says: I completely understand wanting to keep the festive spirit without it feeling over the top. To create a classy, elegant atmosphere, I recommend choosing timeless Christmas songs that are more about mood than novelty. Think along the lines of soft, jazzy classics like Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting), or even an instrumental version of O Holy Night. These songs bring warmth and festivity without being too ‘on-the-nose’. We can also blend them subtly throughout the evening, perhaps starting with traditional wedding music and introducing the Christmas feel during cocktail hour or dinner, and using live arrangements that fit the tone of your day. This way, you’ll have the festive charm without it feeling cheesy! Our colour scheme is deep purple and moss green, and I was wondering what flowers and design you would recommend? Florist Kate from Love & Lace says: A winter wedding in deep purple and moss green would look both stunning and dramatic. At this time of year, deep purple hellebores, roses and berries along with lots of different foliage in moss green will work beautifully together and provide texture and scent. If drama is needed, then the style of the bouquet is key; an asymmetric design or a bouquet with lots of trailing elements will provide instant impact. We rely on nature for our colour palettes and would always suggest working with various shades of your chosen colour scheme to give you more choice as well as the ability to add accents or pops of colour. To emphasise the shade of purple wanted a long, trailing silk ribbon can be used to bind the flowers. Where do you recommend at this time of year for some winter sun? Gary Bagnall, of Beach Comber Tours says: With pristine white sands, yearround warm weather, sparkling azure waters and enchanting culture, Mauritius is a magical destination just waiting to be explored. Enjoy blissful candlelit dinners, romantic strolls along the beach or participate in adrenaline-filled sporting adventures; Mauritius provides the ideal balance of luxury and the chance to escape reality together post-vows.
