Robin and Matt’s big day incorporated their joint love of travel and aviation Images courtesy of Nigel Harvey Photography Robin and Matt met in New Zealand during flight training. “It was my first night in the country and I met Matt at the welcome party,” recalls Robin. “The theme was silly shirts and Matt walked in dressed in a crisp white shirt which really stood out from the many Hawaiian shirts. We spoke most of the night and he persuaded me to join everyone heading into town and said, “there’s a myth that a night out fixes jet lag”. He was definitely wrong about that, but we started dating soon after. After a month of dating, flight training took Matt to the UK thinking it would be short term, alas COVID struck; after more than a year navigating a long-distance relationship, when the couple met one another again in the UK, Matt proposed at Durdle Door, one of the walks local to his family home. “We were driving from my place in Surrey down to Weymouth and he suggested we stop off to stretch our legs,” recalls Robin. “We walked up the hill so the land form was in the background. He took my phone to take a photo of me looking at the landmass and when I turned back around, he was on one knee with a ring!”. The date was set, 25th May 2024, with Guildford Manor Hotel and Spa setting the scene. Here, Robin tells us more about their day… Fly me to the moon REAL WEDDINGS 43
