Your Surrey Wedding - October/November 2024 (Issue 109)

Jessie and Matt met jumping over fire together as part of a Spartan race! “We were in the same team together as we had a mutual friend,” recalls Jessie. “Matt used to try and impress me by lifting heavy weights during our training sessions. I loved how much fun he was and how kind he could be.” After romance blossomed, Matt proposed in August 2022. “It was a complete surprise!” shares Jessie. “I had been dropping hints for months (sending him TikToks) which resulted in him sitting me down and saying I needed to stop as it wasn’t happening anytime soon. Little did I know he had already bought the ring! We went on holiday with my family to Egypt as he knew I would want them there when he proposed. He took me to the beach at sunset and after had organised a special meal for us where all the waiters sang – cheesy but I loved it!” The big date was set, 25th May 2024, with St Peter’s Church, Old Woking and the family home, Comeragh Court, setting the scene. PLANNING THE DAY The reception venue was Jessie’s parents’ house, it was perfect for their big day, symbolising the importance of family and it offered idyllic grounds. “Their garden is stunning, so I knew there was nowhere else I’d want to get married. We had a marquee reception, and the church has been the wedding venue for Matt’s family’s nuptials over the years. “ For the finer details of the day, Jessie and Matt opted for Limoncello bottles for favours – as it’s both families’ favourite tipple – which was stamped with M&J on with sage green ribbon to match the colour scheme. “I also made mint packets with ‘mint to be’ with our initials on them,” adds Jessie. The table plan was a bookcase display with plant pots of lavender with each guests’ name written on a lolly stick dug in. “The idea was ‘Find your stick, to get in there quick!” explains Jessie. “We also painted the bookcase to match in with the colour scheme.” On the tables, the centrepieces comprised memory lane roses – the bride’s favourite – and lots of greenery and eucalyptus to match the arches around the marquee and the bar – flowers were everywhere and more! “We even had flowers to match the centrepieces floating in the pool!” adds Jessie. For the big-day bake, it had a simple but stunning design matching the wedding flowers, and it was flavoured with triple chocolate, vanilla and salted caramel, and lemon with blueberry. The place names had a sage-green flowery background painted by the maid-of-honour, a print used for the invites and everything else. There was greenery all-round the poles in the middle of the marquee as well as the bar, and the arches around the gates to make it look like a grotto – verything matched! “As I’m a teacher, I got the children to write their top tips for marriage on the same background as my invites which we put on a board in the marquee next to the memory stand. I also three different colours of confetti hand-cut into heart-shapes which we used at the church.” The couple opted for a white London taxi, while the bridesmaids travelled in a sage-green campervan. Although, it proved rather eventful as Jessie explains, “The white London taxi I was arriving in broke down on route to us. Luckily the driver is also an ambulance driver so phoned in a favour and he was blue lighted to get his replacement car! My step dad also managed to lock himself into the car and accidentally phoned the emergency services to come get him out!”. 37 REAL WEDDINGS
