Aimee says, “Over the past few years, weddings have started steering away from the traditions. Couples are defying expectations, adding more personal touches to their day.” Couples are more often opting for bespoke options wherever possible. Aimee continued, “One thing we’re seeing more of is personalisation at weddings as the couple wants to make sure the day feels unique to them. From table plans centred on where they met to embroidered napkins, there are many opportunities to add a personal touch to the day.” •Save-the-dates set the precedent of what is to come and first impressions are important. They can be fun and help build excitement for the big day. •Groomsmen and bridesmaid boxes are becoming an increasingly popular part of weddings. Typically given when asking to be part of the big day or on the morning of the wedding to say thank you, they are a thoughtful way to acknowledge those who are a part of making the occasion so special. They are usually filled with gifts that are useful as well as meaningful mementos and personalisation is an ever-increasing part of the boxes. The possibilities for what can be put in a box are endless and can be completely tailored to the recipient. Whether it’s a pair of cufflinks, a necklace, a hip flask or pyjamas; the personalisation of gifts adds that extra customised element to the experience, making those important to you feel even more special. •Wedding favours are a thoughtful touch to show appreciation for everyone involved in the occasion. They are memorable tokens that guests can enjoy and making them personalised allows them to be more exclusive to the couple, impressing the guests. Complete customisation allows the favours to fit with the theme of the wedding, ensuring they make a statement on the tables. Aimee has witnessed a transition in the selection of wedding favours used. She says, “We’re seeing plenty of people get creative with their wedding favours opting for fun and playful gifts like personalised drinks, sweets and candles.” Crafty Brewing, a trailblazer in the craft beer industry, is highly regarded for its personalised beer offerings. Luke Herman, founder of Crafty Brewing, revealed that they have seen a multitude of personalisation requests centred around weddings. He says, “Since introducing personalised beers to the public, there has been a clear demand for wedding-related designs. Our personalisation tool allows customers to design bespoke labels with their own messages and photographs. It’s exciting to be part of such important celebrations. We have also just introduced personalised kegs that we expect to be extremely popular for stag dos and wedding parties.” To find out more, visit www.craftybrewing.co.uk www.lolaandluna.com BY EMERALD EVENTS UNVEILS NEW WEDDING SHOWROOM By Emerald Events is a wedding décor company run by husband and wife team Steph and Tom. FRIMLEY HALL, CAMBERLEY Independent hospitality group, Macdonald Hotels & Resorts with a property, Frimley Hall in Surrey, has funded 15,000 school meals for children in countries including Kenya as part of an innovative new partnership with direct trade coffee producers Paddy & Scott’s. The Lunch Box programme by Paddy & Scott’s, which has now been fully rolled out across Macdonald Hotels & Resorts venues, is a pioneering project designed to fund meals for children living in coffee-growing regions worldwide. As part of the partnership, Lunch Box coffee is served in all of Macdonald Hotels & Resorts’ 32 properties throughout the UK, with guests able to support this charitable effort by enjoying breakfast, afternoon tea or a light refreshment in the hotel of their choice. Each bag of coffee funds a meal for a child in Kenya as part of The Muchomba Project, and other coffee-growing regions worldwide. Michael Savage, head of energy and sustainability at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts, said: “Paddy & Scott’s work to support communities aligns seamlessly with our values, and we’re proud to now stock Lunch Box coffee in all our properties throughout the UK. By doing this, we can make a real difference and change young people’s lives in the locations where our coffee is sourced. We’re looking forward to growing this partnership further over the coming months, and continuing to support those most in need, in developing countries.” Joseph Cordy, head of commercial at Paddy & Scott’s, said, “We are thrilled to partner with Macdonald Hotels & Resorts. Lunch Box coffee is more than just a bag of coffee; with each purchase, a school meal is provided for a child in need, allowing them to focus on their studies without the worry of where their next meal will come from. We use a blend of our finest beans to produce a premium-quality espresso, creating a beautiful crema and delicious taste for all to enjoy.” Only one wedding a day takes place at Frimley Hall Hotel & Spa, a stunning Victorian manor house with many original period features including stained glass windows. Each of the 98 rooms is elegantly designed with plush fabrics and rich, soft furnishings suited to the quintessentially English countryside location. The ivy wall on the hotel’s gable end creates a lush green backdrop for spring or autumnal photos while the rose garden within the beautifully landscaped grounds is bursting with colour during the summer. The Linden Restaurant, the hotel’s on-site brasserie is flooded with natural daylight and offers a romantic setting during the evening. The sweeping lawn provides a picturesque backdrop for a champagne reception during the summer months and the imposing oak staircase and real log fire inside the property create a cosy space for winter weddings. A wedding breakfast for up to 150 guests and a reception for up to 200 loved ones take place in the self-contained Frimley Suite which can be split into three separate rooms and boasts a private reception lounge and bar. Alternatively, intimate ceremonies of up to 30 guests can gather in the White Room looking across the landscaped gardens. Receptions for 22 people can also be enjoyed in this room with its period features including a carved wooden sideboard. As a dog-friendly hotel, fourlegged friends can also take part in the celebrations. This contemporary four-star hotel, wedding venue and spa commands a prime position overlooking the sprawling racing track at Mercedes-Benz World in Weybridge. It’s the perfect pick for a pre-wedding pamper in the newly refurbished BSpa, exchanging vows or enjoying a mini-moon in the region. BEAUTY SLEEP The hotel boasts 131 bedrooms and suites decorated in calming colours with modern touches. My home-fromhome for the night was the hotel’s best offering for newlyweds, one of the four track-facing super suites named after the racing car drivers Kay Petre, Noel Pope, Selwyn Edge and Percy Lambert. The extremely spacious one-bedroom Kay Petre suite featured a designer bathroom with a walk-in rain shower, a separate living room with a dining table and chairs and a romantic king-size bed draped in 100% cotton linen. A FOODIE HEAVEN At the heart of this vibrant hotel is the 2 AA Rosette 1907 Restaurant, Bar & Grill and the recently added 1907 Glasshouse designed with floor-to-ceiling windows which can be fully retracted during summer. Here, diners can enjoy a hearty breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the extensive menu are British classics created with seasonal, fresh ingredients. I tucked into the delicious cider and dill-battered fish and chips followed by the vegan Lotus biscoff cheesecake washed down with a glass of the house red wine called Connubio Italia Rosso which has to be one of the best reds I’ve ever tried. As an after-dinner tipple, I enjoyed a glass of port from the extensive wine, beer and spirit list in the relaxed bar area. There’s also a concoction of colourful cocktails, from the popular Aperol Spritz and Espresso Martini to delicious non-alcoholic mocktails. RELAX AND REJUVENATE The wellness journey starts the moment you enter BSpa, a finalist with the Good Spa Guide Awards 2024 that has just enjoyed an extensive refurbishment at this health-focused hotel. A great new addition is the Himalayan Salt Room featuring a unique microclimate with warming waterbeds and the Tranquillity Meditation Room scented with floral notes, sweet orange and cedarwood. There are two saunas, an infra-red and a Finnish sauna that both offer de-tox benefits plus a large steam room, an ice fountain and an experience shower with different water effects such as tropical rain, mist, monsoon and cold waterfall. A lazy afternoon spent in the outdoor jacuzzi with deep-tissue jets perched on the hotel’s balcony followed by a visit to the sunlight therapy room isn’t to be missed and fitness lovers can enjoy the state-of-the-art gym facilities in BFit. Get the glow with a facial, massage or body experience from the extensive treatment menu that uses Comfort Zone products. I indulged in the 25-minute Comfort Zone Himalayan Salt Massage Ritual carried out by the experienced therapist Emily which was pure bliss! MADE FOR ROMANCE This beautiful wedding venue offers a choice of elegant event spaces licensed for celebrations. The Perfect Wedding Package includes everything needed for a big day to remember including a red carpet on arrival, a drinks reception with one glass of prosecco per guest, a delicious three-course wedding breakfast with coffee and petit fours plus an evening finger buffet. There’s also the honeymoon suite offered to newlyweds on the night of the wedding plus discounted bedroom rates for guests. Get me there! Prices start from £177 based on two people sharing a deluxe room including breakfast. The sesame panko prawns at dinner tasted fantastic! Enjoying the view of the track at Mercedes-Benz World from the large terrace in the stunning Kay Petre suite. The rib-eye steak as a main course was mouth-watering! Indulging in the delicious dessert selection. WEDDINGS AND HONEYMOONS 27

WHAT’S NEW? Across the Surrey Hills National Landscape from Sutton is Ewhurst, home to the new wedding venue Somersbury Barn set in 30 acres of ancient woodland. It was recently announced as the Best National Event Venue in the Muddy Stilettos Awards 2024 just two years after opening. Lucinda Watkinson, owner of Somersbury Barn said: “We are thrilled to have won this award and would like to thank everyone who voted, to take us through the Nationals. We are a young business and have been blown away by the support we’ve had and are incredibly grateful to be recognised in this way. We work with some amazing local suppliers and without them, this wouldn’t be possible.” Lucinda, along with her husband, Sam have lovingly restored their 16th-century house, ancient barn and beautiful Victorian glasshouse, which stand on land once owned by Henry II in 1154. Somersbury Barn has been transformed into a magnificent event venue which now hosts weddings, birthday parties and other celebrations and has also been used for location shooting. Their Victorian, Foster and Pearson glasshouse offers a more intimate setting for private dinner parties and craft workshops. The Muddy Stilettos Awards, now in their 11th year, celebrate independent businesses across 28 English Counties. After open nominations, five businesses were shortlisted per county for each of the 21 prize categories. These were put through to the National Finals, where a Muddy Stilettos Editorial chose their ‘Best of the Best’. www.somersburybarn.co.uk www.instagram.com/thebarnatsomersbury Another option Hampton Court Palace Golf Club is tucked away in 600 acres within the royal grounds of Home Park.
