Your Sussex Wedding - Page number 59 - October/November 2021 (Issue 93)

meet We’ll again S ince 2021 marks the 100 th anniversary of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, wedding planner Lisa Evans from Taylored Weddings felt inspired to create a romantic, intimate wedding shoot set against a poppy-field backdrop. The concept was to capture the love between two people separated by times of war, filled with the unspoken awareness of time lost, never to be reclaimed. “I wanted to show that love conquers all, love waits, love is there for you when you need it and even when you think you don’t. Life can take us in different directions, but as long as we have love, we can be strong enough to endure any hardship,” she explains. Lisa and the assembled team of wedding experts were keen for the project to be as authentic as possible. The beautiful blooms for example are all varieties native to Britain. After all, flowers weren’t something people could afford to import during the first and second World Wars, they simply had to make use of what was around them. The hair and make-up too had a super-stylish vintage vibe; as did the picnic wedding breakfast, duplicating the miss match of snacks that would have been available while rationing was in place. With their heartfelt sentiment, these images caused us here at Your Sussex Wedding to reflect on weddings over the past 18 months and ponder our learnings, which in some ways mirror those of wartime nearlyweds. As Lisa says, “The most important thing was the marriage of two people in love.” As Ditchling’s first poppy bloomed this team of eager wedding suppliers sprung into action to create this heartfelt commemorative shoot Images courtesy of Claire Pulman Photography Video courtesy of DAV Media LOCAL SHOOT 59
