Your Sussex Wedding - February / March 2021 (Issue 89)
Rebecca and Mike’s fondness for Winnie-the-Pooh added special meaning to their chosen wedding venue Images courtesy of Kelsie Scully Photography TODAY IS MY NEW favourite day R ebecca thought Mike wanted to chat up her friend when he approached them at a bar on a night out in 2012, but it was actually Rebecca who’d caught his eye. “We talked for about half an hour before exchanging numbers. His natural humour, charm and handsome looks had won me over,” she remembers. On a Sunday morning in February, six years after that first meeting, Mike suggested going for a walk to Greenwich Park, a meaningful spot for them. “He led the way through the park, up and down hills, I now know he was trying to find a quiet spot, free of dog walkers,” Rebecca tells us. “When we eventually stopped, he asked me to point out buildings in the skyline and when I turned around, he was on one knee. I was in shock and cried immediately, so we had to continue our walk for another hour to let it sink in before ringing our family to give them the news,” she continues. Choosing Holy Trinity Church, Cuckfield, where the bride’s sister got married and where she attended Sunday School was an easy choice and felt really special to her. Deciding on Buxted Park felt equally simple once the couple had visited. “We fell in love with it. It completely suited our theme and vision for an intimate wedding. Plus, it’s set within Ashdown Forest where the Winnie-the- Pooh stories were written – Pooh bear was my favourite childhood toy and I used to play pooh sticks as a kid,” Rebecca explains.
