92 Local professionals offer advice on looking your big-day best ALL ABOUT THE BASE How can I best prepare my oily skin so that my make-up stays on all day without looking shiny? Alison says: A good daily skincare routine is key, but a common mistake is stripping the skin when cleansing, in an attempt to banish the oil, without applying anything else afterwards. Avoid over-washing as this destroys the skin’s protective film, which defends against bacteria and viruses. Cleanse with a good non-foaming cleanser and use a moisturiser or facial oil designed specifically for oily skin. Your make-up artist will be able to advise which foundation is best suited to your skin type when you have your trial, also giving you the chance to see how well it lasts. Most of my brides choose Airbase, an airbrush applied foundation. Silicone based, it lasts all day and doesn’t clog pores, allowing skin to breathe – perfect for oily skin. Start with a primer to create an even base for your foundation and finish with a light dusting of translucent powder to set it in place. www.woodlandhillphotography.co.uk IT’S THE TAUPES I love the hair and make-up look from last issue’s styled shoot, Very Vintage. Can you tell me how it was done? Claire says: Erin's hair was blow dried with salt spray, then tonged into Hollywood waves. For the make-up, we went for a perfect matte base using Estee Lauder Double Wear. The vintage-inspired eye make-up involved blending matte taupes and greys into the sockets and keeping the lids light with a shimmery cream shade. We topped this off with black winged gel liner and a matte pink lip. Erin, like many brides, had her lash extensions done in advance. www.teriv photography.co.uk PERFECT TIMING When should I start thinking about booking my hair and make-up artist, and do you have any tips for finding one that's a perfect fit?  Samantha says: When it comes to your hair and make-up trial, it's okay to have no idea about the perfect style for you. That’s what we’re here for! To prepare for your trial we recommend gathering together all your hair style and make-up ideas on a Pinterest board, or in an album gallery. I recommend that you book your trial to take place around six months prior to your big day, as this gives us enough time to perfect your look, get excited, feel at ease and be “I do” ready. In fact, my top tip is to plan your trial on the same day as your dress fitting to take full advantage of seeing the completed look. When it comes to booking your beauty professionals for your special day, the earlier the better. Do your research, communicate, connect and remember: aim to look and feel the best version of yourself for your wedding day. Just be you.
