Your Sussex Wedding - Dec/Jan 2019 (Issue 82)

SNOWSTOPPING BAKES What would be the perfect showstopping cake for a December wedding? Winter is all about warm flavours combined with deep colours and sparkle. Subtly spicy sponge cakes, perhaps carrot, as well as orange and cinnamon can be a lovely taste sensation for a winter wedding. Salted caramel chocolate cakes are still very popular adding a hint of indulgence to your day. Many couples choose a red theme for their Christmas wedding cake, with sprays of beautiful deep red roses, mistletoe, glistening green holly garlands with bright red berries or even the oh-so Christmassy poinsettia. For a January wedding, deep blues, silver and white, all help to bring a magical frosted feel. Silver sparkle, icicles, and snowflakes can all combine to make a beautiful centrepiece of a cake. What can you suggest? You’ve chosen a wonderful time of year for a wedding. If you’re lucky enough to have snow, just think about what the photos could look like! Chances are your family and friends will all be around during this festive holiday season, and as the pressures of Christmas are over, they’ll be only too happy to celebrate with you.  Musically, there’s not much need to have too many cheesy Christmas tunes, which will probably grate with most people by then. Instead, just think of your favourite music. Ask your family and friends what they love to dance to if you need a little more inspiration, and let your DJ know what you don’t want as everyone’s definition of cheesy is a little different! Above all, enjoy this fabulous time of the year with your loved ones. Brian Mole, dancemix.co.uk THE RING’S THE THING I’m looking for a wedding ring to complement my emerald cut solitaire engagement ring. What can you suggest? These are cut differently to modern brilliant cuts, so ideally the stones in your wedding ring should look the same. Square, or carre diamonds match beautifully and are perfect for insetting into a fitted ring. Another idea is to have a channel set carre cut half eternity- style, which is a timeless classic. Finally, if a wedding band without diamonds is your preferred option, a fitted ring will allow the elongated protrusion of the emerald cut diamond to sit perfectly against it.
