Go with what you want rather than trying to fit into a standard wedding template. We didn’t want a sit-down meal, formal day or disco, so we didn’t have any of it! Relax on the day and enjoy . My son gave a speech at the wedding breakfast on behalf of himself and his sisters welcoming Duncan officially as their stepdad. We had a vintage-style singer in the evening who created a lovely atmosphere for guests to chat and dance if they wanted to. Everyone loved both singers and they suited the venue perfectly. We opted for a semi-naked cake decorated with fruit and flowers in three flavours. We also had a second fruitcake made by my mum as it’s Duncan’s favourite. We had a live singer for the ceremony and drinks reception. He was great and had a very laid back style. All of our suppliers were amazing and so helpful. They all did even more than we’d hoped. Amy and Amy at The Pilgrims Rest spent the whole day organising everything and seeing that the day ran smoothly, allowing us to relax and feel safe in the knowledge that they were behind the scenes. For our honeymoon we went to the North Pennines for ten days and stayed in a lovely countryside cottage. It was an incredibly relaxing time, just what we needed. 62
