REAL WEDDINGS 37  I t was an instant attraction for Adam upon meeting Jessie in an AS maths class at Brighton College. However, Jessie tells us he had a bit of a reputation for being a player, so she kept him at arm’s length! At first, that is, since two years later, Adam’s charms had won the day and the pair became a couple. Over the next five years, Jessie trained to be a vet at The Royal Veterinary College, and on the day of her graduation, Adam had arranged to meet her in London at the ceremony. While she was readying herself to leave her home in Rottingdean, the doorbell rang, and there stood Adam with 12 long- stem roses. Jessie reveals: “He took me into the living room and began his prepared speech. I was so shocked – I just backed away saying, ‘no, no, no, what are you doing?!’ But obviously I said ‘yes’!” Jessie had always told Adam that if she were to receive a proposal of marriage, she’d want it to be on a day when she was dressed up and had her hair and nails done, which she assures us is rare, being a veterinary student! So Adam chose his opportunity perfectly, and Jessie hadn’t suspected a thing. The couple both agreed on a barn wedding so set about looking for a suitable location around the county. Jessie says: “When we visited Fitzleroi, I just fell in love with it.” The groom-to-be took a little more persuading, as it wasn’t the closest venue to them, but Jessie tells us: “I won in the end, and eventually he fell in love with it too.” The beautiful courtyard, lovely wooden beams and fairylights all played their part. Here the bride Jessie tells us more about this gorgeous wedding day… SETTING THE SCENE The venue styling for the day was very much in keeping with the rustic barn surroundings, with pale pink and ivory lanterns hanging among the fairylights and hessian runners adorning the tables. The table plan took the shape of cards hung from a white wooden ladder by heart-shaped pegs. The plan itself was created by Forest Fern Designs, with string from Ginger Ray and ladder from Colour Pop Occasions. The bride says: “It was the only bit of decorating we did ourselves and we were very proud of it!” Forest Fern Designs also crafted the place names to complement the invitations, menus and table plan. Brown and cream layered card displayed guests’ names inside cut-out hearts. “The table names were Adam’s domain,” Jessie says, “He has a passion for model engineering, specifically miniature steam locomotives, and he spends most of his spare time building them, designing things on CAD and even has his own business selling 3D-printed parts.” So all the tables were named after trains, with some holding personal meaning for the couple. The groom designed and painted them himself. The names included Brighton, where the RUSTIC ROMANCE Jessica La Brooy and Adam Cro were wed on 11 th August, 2018, at Fitzleroi Barn Images courtesy of Sara Reeve Photography
