Your Sussex Wedding - December/January 2023/2024 (Issue 106)

DUKE OF YORK’S 01273 054 160 | www.picturehouses.com The Duke of York’s Picturehouse is celebrating 113 years of being an iconic part of Brighton’s history. With many of its original features still intact, the cinema boasts a vintage style, exuding an atmosphere of the golden age of the silver screen. It’s a story as rich as you would imagine, ranging from bingo nights, wrestling nights, weddings and even unauthorised punk concerts. In 2023, the venue is still going strong, having been run by Picturehouse since 1994. The gorgeous auditorium offers a stunning space to hold your ceremony in with the opportunity for you to show your videos and photographs on the big screen. Have your names displayed on the traditional readograph as you walk down the red carpet and your guests are treated to prosecco and popcorn in the retro foyer, bar and terrace areas. The team want to make sure your day is exactly how you’ve dreamed it, so they aim to deliver bespoke ceremonies of which no two are ever the same. Once all guests are assembled in the auditorium (up to 271), the wedding party will head down the aisle. In fact, due to the nature of the building there are two aisles, so usually one family will walk down one and the other down the second. The two of you will then join each other on stage for introductions, readings, exchange of vows and the ring exchange. Wedding drinks receptions for 271 guests can take over the whole building. After the ceremony, the space is held for an hour-and-a-half for everyone to celebrate. The bar and kiosk are opened up, alongside the balcony and auditorium for guests to purchase drinks and gather to wish you both well. SOUTHEND BARNS 01243 641 247 | www.southendbarns.co.uk Set on a working farm in the beautiful West Sussex countryside, Southend Barns is surrounded by stunning landscaped gardens and ample outdoor space with a picturesque courtyard that lies at the heart of the venue – safe for children and the perfect spot for reception drinks and garden games. As evening falls, the gardens are lit with romantic up-lights that highlight the fantastic flint and log walls of the wedding barns. Here guests can gather in the relaxing and sheltered Collecting Yard with its sumptuous sofas, fire pit and al fresco bar to enjoy a truly magical evening setting. The Dairy Barn has been lovingly restored with rustic charm and romantic touches and can host 120 loved ones for a ceremony. With a wonderful sweeping 22-metre aisle, exposed wooden beams and benches made of sweet chestnut, it’s an idyllic setting to tie the knot. Southend Barns also has a fully licensed outdoor ceremony area known as The Secret Garden, which can accommodate up to 100 guests. This enchanting garden is nestled in a tranquil spot between the resident alpacas’ field and the flint walls of the Dairy Barn. Post-vows, dine and dance the night away in the magnificent 220-year-old Threshing Barn, which is full of warmth and character with its authentic wooden beams and wrought iron chandeliers. Large windows provide spectacular views of the landscaped gardens and sunsets over the surrounding countryside.
