Your South Wales Wedding - Mar/Apr 2020 (Issue 72)

REAL WEDDINGS Matt wanted to wear something a bit different, so we went to several tailors looking for a green suit. Beggars Run did a lovely fabric in the same shade as the bridesmaids’ dresses that looks amazing. He also wanted a bow tie, and we must have gone through 50 before he found the perfect one. The day of the wedding was also Wales’ final match in the Six Nationals Rugby against Ireland. We knew this might cause traffic, but the bus driving Matt and the guests to the venue went the wrong way into town and ended up getting stuck in road closures near the Millenium Stadium. They were almost an hour late! The groom and his groomsmen ended up running through Bute Park, and because he was wearing a green suit, everyone assumed he was Irish and gave him grief! Thankfully the registrars didn’t have any other weddings that day, and it just added to the fun. Just as the speeches were finished, we heard that Wales had won the tournament and everyone burst into the national anthem. The bridesmaids chose their dresses as I wanted everyone to be comfortable and happy with the decision. We chose to walk down the aisle together, and it was one of the best decisions we made. I lost my father a few years ago, and although I don’t believe in brides being given away, it felt wrong to replace my dad. We walked in together to The Rolling Stones, one of my dad’s favourites. Our mums and my maid-of-honour gave beautiful speeches. We didn’t want it to seem like the only people allowed to give speeches were men. There were lots of traditions that we felt were old fashioned or sexist, so we decided not to include them. Heledd, the wedding coordinator at Insole Court, was absolutely incredible. She was such a safe pair of hands and the day ran like clockwork. Chris, our photographer, was so efficient that even after the rugby delays, he managed to get the day back on track. He took all of the photos that we asked for and more. 59 
