I got married a few years ago, and while I like the idea of trying on lots of stunning dresses, I also know how stressful finding the perfect gown can be. I had no idea what style I wanted, but after lots of trial and error, my wonderful consultant helped me pick my dream A-line design. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the amount of choice available, make sure you listen to your consultant. They have years of experience and have helped brides of every shape and size find their dream gown, so they will know what looks good on you even if you don’t yourself. Go to your appointment with a rough idea of what you like, but try to keep an open mind. On paper, it might not be what you want, but it might still be the one. Charlotte and Adam celebrated their big day surrounded by friends and family at Caer Llan Images courtesy of Oliver Rees Photography MAGIC Charlotte and Adam met when they were teenagers working at their local golf club. “Adam likes to think it was his singing that got me to say yes to a date, but it really wasn’t,” says Charlotte. “After more than a decade together, Adam proposed in 2022 during a holiday to my family’s villa in Spain. He decided to do it at the beach before we went to a restaurant that evening. On the walk down to the beach, he managed to get the ring stuck on his own finger when checking it was still in his pocket; luckily, I didn’t notice, and he managed to surprise me when asking the question.” Read on to see some of Charlotte’s favourite moments from their big day... We created our welcome sign and added decals to a mirror for guests to take pictures with. The amazing food was provided by Caer Llan; we had a three-course sit-down meal and then a curry in the evening. We always loved the idea of getting married outside and when driving up to Caer Llan on the day of our viewing and seeing the gorgeous views of the Welsh countryside, we couldn’t think of a better backdrop to our ceremony. Adam and I chose a two-tiered naked cake from Marks and Spencer, which my mum added flowers to. We also added a cake topper taking the mick out of Adam for taking 10 years to propose. We wanted our flowers to be white with a bit of green to bring out the colour of the bridesmaids’ dresses. We gave Emma Webster Flowers free rein and the blooms turned out beautifully. I especially loved the broken arch. For our centrepieces we wanted to keep it simple, so our florist, Emma Webster Flowers, provided bud vases, candles and a mirrored base for them to sit on. Our favours were little trinket bowls made by my brother’s fiancée, who is a ceramist. Our tables were named after the many places we have travelled to during our relationship. 26
I felt surprisingly relaxed in the morning and don’t think I stopped smiling all day. Our friend did a reading during the ceremony that was beautiful, and my maid-of-honour’s speech was so emotional that I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room. My dress was called Harry by the designer Made with Love from The White Collection. My mum had seen Harry online, but when we were in the shop, it didn’t look like much, but when I tried it on, we all just knew it was the one. Adam wore a black tuxedo from Hawkes Bespoke Outfitters. We had a DJ to keep our guests entertained and we provided glowsticks to create a party vibe. I’ve seen Adam cry maybe five times in 12 years, so I wasn’t expecting him to cry on our wedding day at all. When he turned round and started crying as I walked down the aisle, I laughed as I wasn’t expecting it at all! My bridesmaids wore floor-length forest green dresses to complement the flowers. We created a crossword for our guests to fill out during the cocktail hour. At the end of the night, we decided to jump in the pool. I had changed into another dress to do this and when I went to jump in a second time to get the perfect shot for our photographer, my dress fell down, so I managed to flash any guests who were there watching! Nia and Carwyn met online during the pandemic. “Our story was a bit of a whirlwind, from talking online and meeting families on our second and third dates to Carwyn moving in after a month and a half, but we knew we were meant to be,” says Nia. “By the time we had our first date, Carwyn had already proposed over messenger three times! When we finally met, something just clicked; we didn’t let go of each other’s hands the whole time. In 2022, Carwyn organised a romantic date at The Bear to pop the question. Neither of us is sure if I even said yes, but here we are today!” SETTING THE SCENE “I’ve always loved Hensol Castle,” shares the bride. “My dad used to play cricket on the grounds and my mum would score, so I loved that family connection. I’ve always adored the countryside and with Carwyn coming from West Wales, I really wanted to reflect our country upbringing in the colours I chose. I wanted to incorporate my love of delphiniums everywhere! I work in fashion, so I am obsessed with anything to do with design, which I really wanted to show in the day. It was super important to us that the wedding felt like us, so we made sure we incorporated lots of personal details and mixed traditional elements in. “Our centrepieces were created by Lumi Event Design and were delphiniums in tall glass vases,” adds Nia. “We also chose dark wooden signage along with sage green napkins from The Knotted Napkin Co. We made our welcome sign more personalised by adding funny details as a nod to Carwyn’s ice hockey playing days. I made the milk churns, with the help of my mother-in-law, using churns from my family farm. They’ve been used at a few family weddings now, which I have done the arrangement for, so it was a pinch-me moment that I finally got to arrange these churns for my own wedding!” The couple gave money to charities that were close to their hearts as favours. “We chose Marie Curie in memory of my wonderful gran, along with The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, in honour of Carwyn serving in the navy,” explains Nia. “To celebrate Carwyn’s love of golf, I surprised him with a golf-themed table plan and table names using courses he’s played at. I also designed our very own crest, which featured at the top of our table plan and on all the menus that I created. I also hand-tied 96 blue bows around each of our guests’ menus, as I’m obsessed with the little details!” The couple’s beautiful two-tiered wedding cake was made by Forage Farm Shop & Kitchen. “The flavours were red velvet and Guinness, two of our favourites,” recalls the bride. “We asked Gail Armytage Florist, who lives nearby, to decorate the cake using flowers.” DRESSED TO IMPRESS “I fell in love with a dress called Beata by Milla Nova from Laura May Bridal,” says Nia. “I’d been looking at designs with lace and that were fitted, so I didn’t think I would go for an A-line with an epic train! I wore my gran’s pearl necklace along with some pearl drop earrings from an important family friend. My bespoke veil was from Richard Designs and my hair clip was borrowed from Carwyn’s great aunt. 31 REAL WEDDINGS
