We were drawn to the idea of a traditional countryside wedding, which would be close to my family. Midelney Manor was perfect; it’s a stunning historic site with a fantastic spring garden and it was just the right size for our 150-strong guest list. Most importantly, the owner, Alice, was so approachable and attentive – we knew we were in the best hands. It was important to us to include our friends and family as much as possible. My two great friends from university created a homemade Victoria sponge, and a local cake maker supplied four more delicious cakes. We created a sociable feel with 12 wooden kitchen-style tables split over three rows. As I’m a DT teacher, I designed each place name and laser cut them onto pinewood labels. Greg works in films, so we named each table after one of our favourite movies, such as The Lion King, Gladiator and When Harry Met Sally. We wanted a quintessential springtime look. Our florist, Cottage Garden Flowers, created beautiful seasonal arrangements and incorporated Scottish blooms to represent my family heritage, as well as Greg’s time there as a student and professional. 44
