Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding - April/May 2021 (Issue 82)
We ask the regions’ top experts for their advice RED CARPET GLAMOUR Q How do I create a glam Hollywood-style make-up look for my wedding? There’s nothing better than the beauty looks from the golden age of Hollywood, from the 1920s through to the 1950s. I love the gorgeously defined make- up of the ’40s, which is all about exaggerating your features to make your lips and eyes appear bigger. A satin scarlet lip, cut-crease eyeshadow and false lashes take this to the next level. To create your vintage Hollywood look, follow these steps… ❤ Begin by priming your skin before applying concealer and a colour-matched foundation. Add blush and set with a translucent powder and setting spray. ❤ Line along your upper lash line, then extend upwards and outwards to create a feline flick. If you have trouble with this, draw a dot where you want your winged liner to finish, then draw towards the dot. ❤ Add a deliciously bold statement to your film-star look while bringing it into the modern day with the Hollywood Lips matte liquid lipstick by Charlotte Tilbury. It glides on like a gloss, nurtures like a cream and gives full coverage. Jane Dare | Eye Do Makeup www.eyedomakeup.co.uk Fashion and Beauty THE HEAT IS ON Q We’re having an outdoor summer wedding. What dress styles will keep me cool and comfortable? Soft, flowing, lightweight fabrics such as chiffon, crepe or tulle tend to be best for summer weddings, although other fabrics can work too. Keep in mind the temperature, setting and movement requirements. For example, a mermaid-style gown looks amazing on most brides, but it’s not practical to climb into a carriage or even lots of stairs as it will restrict your movement. Consider going strapless or having loose-fitting sleeves. Air circulation is very important to stop you from sweating and to keep you feeling comfortable. A light, floaty gown made in a luxurious breathable fabric will keep you cool, well ventilated and also give you the freedom to dance the night away. What do you suggest? To me, a boho look screams loose waves, braids and free-flowing hair – it’s my favourite bridal hairstyle. Incorporating a fishtail braid can help to keep structure in the style, whether you have an up do or half up do, and it will create that boho vibe you want. Creating a loose wave requires a strong but soft fixing spray and a large barrel wand. Your chosen hairstylist will use products at your trial and ask for your feedback. If the style didn’t stay long enough for you, then there’s always a stronger product we can use! Trials are essential for your stylist to not only get to know you, but also your hair. It’s where we find the right look and products, which will be the secret to success on your wedding day. Katie Winter | Bristol Bridal Hair www.bristolbridalhair.co.uk www.han adallimore.com 80
