It was Matthew’s lovely smile and kind nature that meant Astrid knew she’d found the one . It wasn’t long before Matthew was planning the perfect proposal. “I wanted to show Astrid my favourite places I went to as a child,” he says. “I took her to Devon for the weekend and proposed to her by St Nicholas Chapel, overlooking Ilfracombe Harbour.” He may have given himself away beforehand though. “I had an inkling something was going on,” Astrid says. “He kept driving around in circles and getting himself quite flustered!” It was an easy choice when it came to the venue. Both Astrid and Matthew had attended weddings at Orchardleigh Estate before they met each other, with Astrid singing at a wedding and Matthew attending one as a guest, and they had both thought how wonderful it’d be to get married there one day – so they set the date for 12 th April, 2019.
