Your Somerset, Glos & Wilts Wedding - December/January 2024/2025 (Issue 104)

Life and soul of the party Lizzie and Ben’s big day looked like so much fun, we wish we were there! Images courtesy of Debbie Christopher Lizzie and Ben met during their second year of university at a pre-season hockey match. “I actually found Ben quite annoying and cocky at the time. Charming... but irritating,” Lizzie remembers. Nevertheless, the two went on a date to a seafood restaurant when Lizzie friend-zoned him. “I think I liked him too much and knew it was all or nothing,” she shares. Not to be deterred however, Ben spent the next year and a half grafting away to ensure they became the best of friends, before the two finally made it official “Six years on, we’re married and happier than ever,” Lizzie says. Ben took Lizzie to one of their favourite spots, Beckenham Place Park near London, to propose. Just him, her and their beautiful cocker spaniel. “It certainly was a shock,” Lizzie remembers. “I cried endlessly and kept telling him it wasn’t real.” The day he’d chosen to propose was also his parents’ wedding anniversary, so having secured a “yes” from Lizzie, they went round with the surprise news, and they were understandably over the moon. The two had their hearts set on a chilled-out festival vibe for their big day and set about looking for a venue that could offer them the flexibility to do as they pleased. “Yarlington House was stunning, the gardens beautiful and the ceremony area was beyond our wildest dreams,” Lizzie explains. They also found owner Carolyn de Salis to be incredibly accommodating, and was able to share a wealth of great local suppliers, allowing the couple to embrace the best of Somerset. “It also turns out we were the hardest partiers they’d ever witnessed, and the funniest wedding they’d ever seen,” Lizzie tells us. We can’t wait to hear more! So, join us as bride Lizzie gives us the lowdown on 24th August 2024... the day she and Ben tied the knot. 36
