Choosing the perfect photographer for your big day can feel stressful. Trying to find a supplier that you get along with, that suits your budget and fits the vibe of your day can feel impossible, but don’t panic; there is a supplier out there for everyone! Once you’ve chosen your venue, start looking for your photographer right away. Especially if you’re planning a summer wedding, as photographers can get booked up years in advance. If you’re not sure where to start, when I got engaged, I looked through wedding magazines, websites and Instagram to narrow down our list to five potentials. We emailed all of them and asked for their brochures and price lists. Once they’d all responded, we looked through the images and decided on the style that we liked (the fun part) and how much we wanted to spend (the not-so-fun part). We organised video chats with two of them and felt an instant connection with the photographer who was recommended to us by a friend. He was lovely and put us both at ease right away, so we decided to hire him. If you’re feeling nervous in front of the camera, I recommend organising a pre-wedding shoot. We decided to book one, and although we were very nervous, I’m so glad we did it. It’s a great way to get to know your photographer and see how they work before the big day. Plus, you’ll come away with some beautiful images that you can use on your wedding stationery. To help you find your dream photographer, we’ve put together a feature introducing some of the region’s best suppliers. Happy planning! CONGRATULATIONS! Chelsea Buckley, a sales and events manager who works at The Royal Toby, was named ‘Wedding Co-ordinator of the Year’ at County Brides’ North West Wedding Awards. Chelsea has overseen almost 300 weddings since she started in The Royal Toby’s sales and events department, including a Halloweenthemed wedding featuring a grim reaper. Chelsea tells us: “I love building relationships with the couples that get married at The Royal Toby. It’s so fulfilling to see them have a happy and memorable day. I’m thrilled to have been recognised for my work. Every wedding is different and each one is special. Some weddings have taken several years to plan, but we’ve also organised one in under three months. We’ve had couples as young as 19 getting married at The Royal Toby through to people in their 70s. We’ve had a bridal party of 28 walk down the aisle in front of the bride. There have been dogs as ring bearers and celebrities as guests. We’ve seen it all.” Visit www.theroyaltobyhotel.co.uk for more information. SHINE BRIGHT LIKE A DIAMOND David M Robinson, with a showroom based in the heart of Altrincham, promises to redefine the luxury jewellery experience. The recently renovated, state-of-theart showroom has been increased by 640 sq ft to allow for an in-store workshop. The master goldsmiths showcase rare and traditional skills of hand forging engagement and wedding rings, alongside the latest techniques in micro-stone setting, allowing couples to witness the intricate process of jewellery making, adding an educational and immersive element to their visit. At the heart of the showroom is the new design room, where David M Robinson’s expert jewellery designers are on hand to guide couples through a creative journey, from the initial idea to the creation of luxurious finished pieces. John Robinson, the managing director at David M Robinson, says: “We have created a best-in-class retail space in Altrincham. We have put our workshop, designers and goldsmiths right on the shop floor, allowing our clients to engage in every step of the bespoke journey. From listening to wearing and enjoying to consultation, design and making, the jewellery journey is now under one roof. NEW VENUE ALERT The Red Pump Inn at Bashall Eaves in Clitheroe is best known as a B&B with a well-stocked bar, delicious food and French-inspired bedrooms. Steeped in history dating back to 1756, the owners Jonathan and Fran built their daughter Ciara a yurt for her wedding in 2021. The couple were delighted and guests told them to keep it up because their ‘your wedding, your way’ philosophy was just what the area needed. Having a background in construction and having already built the Red Pump Inn’s glamping yurts and shepherd’s huts, Jonathan built the bespoke wedding yurt and has since hosted a handful of weddings. Jonathan tells us: “We only hold weddings between May and September and want to limit to one wedding a week, so couples get a truly bespoke service; we don’t want them to feel as though they’re on a wedding conveyor belt and rushed. Couples get exclusive venue hire, including all our accommodation and they don’t have to use our catering. Brides and grooms have chosen everything from a three-course meal to a variety of street food trucks. They can bring in whichever planner, décor and photographer they wish to; all we ask is they use our bar licence and service and of course our accommodation for friends and family.” Discover more at www.theredpumpinn.co.uk 10
A DELICIOUS ALTERNATIVE ThinK Wine is a healthier prosecco and sparkling rosé brand. A glass of ThinK Wine has just 75 calories, low carbs, and 0.58g of residual sugar per 125ml. That’s a significant reduction in sugar for the award-winning wine that aims to offer an alternative to sugar-filled competitors. The product contains no artificial sweeteners or ingredients while still retaining an ABV of 11%. ThinK Wine has a fresh and revitalising finish, despite the health-conscious benefits. All of the brand’s wines are 100 per cent vegan and organic and are low in sulphites, meaning less of a hangover too. The brand currently has two main product lines, with more product development in the pipeline for 2024. What’s more, the company also offers a retro VW Campervan that can be used for weddings. It’s available to hire with or without staff, serving up its low-sugar wines that taste amazing while retaining all of the percentage volume. Owner Kath Jones tells us: “I know this concept is a winner. I made it for myself, but it’s turning into a hugely popular product. When people try it, they love it! They can’t believe it is a low-sugar product. People are increasingly health conscious; they are more switched on to things like sugar addiction, additives and sulphites, but they also still want to be able to enjoy a drink now and again. With no palatable alternative available on the market, I felt moved to create something. That’s how ThinK Wine was born, and we’ve been growing ever since.” Exclusively for Your North West Wedding, ThinK Wine is offering our readers a 20 per cent discount off wine when you use the code NWW20 at www.thinkwinegroup.co.uk. Offer ends 30th November 2024. Tom and I chose a metal arch with flowers, draped fabric, and a neon sign, which was used as the ceremony backdrop and behind the sweetheart table during the wedding breakfast. We also had lots of pumpkins and bud vases filled with autumnal flowers and votives lining the aisle. We wanted a venue that we could use exclusively for the whole day, as well as somewhere we could stay over. It also had to be close for our family and friends to travel to, particularly for certain family members that we wanted to be there. Ashfield House is quite unique in the area; the food was amazing, and it had a lovely relaxed vibe, which was exactly what we wanted! Some guest tables had pumpkins with draped fabric, votives, tapered candles and bud vases filled with autumnal flowers and foliage. Others had large flower towers, with drapes of fabric and tapered candles around the base. Tom and I decided to have a sweetheart table, which was decorated with mini pumpkins, bud vases, candles and personalised banners. Daydreamer Creative Studio created banners with song lyrics on them, which were hung from our sweetheart table. For our food, we opted for barbecue-style mini burgers, kebabs and salads. For the evening food, we had a pizza oven and fish and chips. We created artificial pumpkins as place names, which people took home. Our cake was heart-shaped and decorated in shades of burnt orange. We also had individual cupcakes that looked like pumpkins in various colours. 22
I wore a silver dress, which I bought from Coast. I wanted to spend money in other areas of the wedding and also didn’t particularly want a white dress. While I was browsing online, I came across the dress by chance and I just loved it. I sent it to my sister and she said she could imagine my whole day when she saw it! Our photographer, Paul from Twigs Branch Photography, went above and beyond to make sure things were perfect for us and made sure we got the best photos. Our florist, Sarah from Olive Owl Flowers, also did an absolutely incredible job and completely got my vision for our autumnal wedding. My bridesmaids wore gowns from Lá Closet Dé Chánel. Tom chose a navy suit with an orange check from Marc Darcy. We were nervous before the ceremony but relaxed and really happy afterwards. Having the first looks with my dad and grandad, who both walked me down the aisle, was a lovely moment. To keep our guests entertained, we hired a musician who performed while we had drinks after the ceremony and in between the wedding breakfast and evening. We had a DJ for the evening from Dancefloor Couture LTD and a photo booth. My sister and brother-in-law had a small 15-person outdoor wedding due to the pandemic, which meant they weren’t able to have their first dance, so we arranged for our DJ to invite them onto the dancefloor before our first dance and play what would have been their first dance song, so they got to have their first dance. After the wedding, we went to Copenhagen for three nights as a mini-moon and Croatia for 10 days the following June. REAL WEDDINGS 23

OF LOVE Amie and Elise tied the knot at The Portico Library surrounded by their friends and family Images courtesy of Kate McCarthy Photography The city 26
Amie and Elise met when Elise joined the local women’s football team that Amie had set up. “We quickly hit it off and started hanging out at group outings with the team, enjoying each other’s company more and more,” says Amie. “As time went on, our friendship grew into something deeper, and before we knew it, our group outings turned into dates. One thing led to another, and we fell in love, beginning our beautiful journey together.” Elise proposed during a family break in Abersoch, Wales. “All of my family had gathered to spend some quality time together,” shares Amie. “It was the first day with everyone together and we had spent time in the hot tub. Elise chose the perfect moment, waiting until the evening. I went outside onto the patio, which overlooks the beach, and was under a very starry sky. There were only us two there at that moment. Elise surprised me with a proposal, pulling the ring from a plant near her feet. I was completely taken aback, and as I stood there taking in the moment and Elise’s words, my family burst out from inside, cheering loudly in celebration. We celebrated together, and it couldn’t have been any more perfect; we cheered so much so that it resulted in a noise complaint, but that didn’t stop us from partying and celebrating our engagement.” SETTING THE SCENE “Choosing a wedding venue was a challenging process for us,” explains Amie. “We explored barns, farms, and breweries, but nothing felt right until we stumbled upon The Portico Library. Almost ready to give up, we walked into the library and were instantly captivated by the breathtaking view of the dome, the beautifully stacked books, and the welcoming staff. Michelle, one of the staff members, was incredibly helpful and enthusiastic, walking us through the potential plans. From the moment we stepped inside, we knew it was the perfect place for our wedding, and by the time we had left that day, we’d already put our deposit down.” For their favours, the couple gave a donation to Pancreatic Cancer Charity. “Unfortunately, my mum died of pancreatic cancer in 2022,” recalls Amie. “So, in honour of her, we made a charity donation for flower seeds that said, ‘let love bloom’. My mum thought a lot of our relationship and had such a lovely bond with Elise; we missed her a lot, and the wedding was hard without her, even though we felt her love and presence all day long.” After their ceremony, the couple had their wedding breakfast at Piccolino Caffé Grande. “Due to the room layout, the table arrangement was fixed, but I had the opportunity to choose where everyone sat,” reveals Amie. “Each place setting featured favours and small pink vases with gypsophila flowers. A large candelabra with a huge bouquet was placed at one of the larger tables, and the top table was beautifully decorated with an array of flowers. “A friend of my mums, who is a retired florist, kindly did our wedding flowers,” continues Amie. “We chose a theme of white and pink roses for the bridesmaids’ bouquets and my bridal bouquet. The men, along with one of my sisters and Elise, wore buttonholes, while my step-mum and Elise’s mum each had a corsage. Additionally, the florist prepared thank you bouquets, which were presented during the speeches.” Amie and Elise’s wedding cake was crafted by Pink Pigeon Creative Bakery Studio. “The company has an incredible eye for detail, and they created five unique cakes, each with personal significance to us,” remembers Amie. “One was a pride cake, another was a pink cake to match our theme, and a third featured two cat toys identical to our cats that we adore. The fourth cake had a ‘just married’ design, and the fifth was adorned with flowers. Additionally, Pink Pigeon Creative Bakery Studio set up a gigantic dessert table filled with brownies, blondies, popcorn, chocolate-covered strawberries, chocolate popsicles, doughnuts and cookies.” DRESSED TO IMPRESS “After a disappointing experience with a bridal shop closing down and delivering an unsatisfactory jumpsuit, I decided to cancel my order,” says Amie. “Thankfully, with my step-mum’s support, we visited WED2B, where I found the perfect dress. It turned out to be exactly what I hadn’t realised I was looking for, making it a perfect pick for me, and I was so pleased I had chosen a dress for my wedding day instead of the jumpsuit after all.” Elise chose an ivory pinstriped suit from Hobbs with a shirt by Hawes & Curtis 27 REAL WEDDINGS

UK, which had a bib-style pattern. “We gave our bridesmaids the choice to find their own pink dresses as we wanted them to feel comfortable,” shares Amie. “One of our bridesmaids wore a dark brown suit, which looked really cool.” TIME TO CELEBRATE “As part of us booking Piccolino Caffé Grande for our reception and Piccolo, its sister restaurant, for the evening party, we were offered to use their DJ,” reveals Amie. “I was able to give the details of the types of music we like and what we wanted to hear, and the DJ did the rest. We got so many compliments; he was fantastic! We also had a spinning photo booth from Paparazzi Mirror. This was a huge hit. You stand on a podium and a camera spins around you and whoever is on the podium with you. It then makes the video have a slow-motion effect; it’s a really cool novelty and was definitely a hit with our guests.” MEMORABLE MOMENTS “Our wedding day was everything we had dreamed of and more,” explains Amie. “From the moment we woke up, surrounded by our closest friends and family, we felt overwhelming love and joy. The anticipation built as we prepared separately, eagerly awaiting the moment we would exchange heartfelt vows and rings. Seeing each other for the first time, dressed impeccably and radiating happiness, was a cherished memory. Throughout the day, we were surrounded by immense love and support. The day flew by in a blur of laughter, tears, and unforgettable moments that we’ll cherish forever. “Walking the streets of Manchester, we were greeted with an unexpectedly heartwarming reception – countless people stopped to cheer and congratulate us, which was both surprising and incredibly touching,” adds Amie. “As a gay couple, we initially had concerns about public reception, but any worries were quickly dispelled by the warm and enthusiastic embrace from the people of Manchester. Their acceptance added an extra layer of joy to our celebrations. The day passed in a blur of cherished moments and happiness, as we savoured every second of our unforgettable day.” The happy couple’s day was full of laughter. “On our wedding day, things did go very smoothly; however, there were plenty of amusing moments that added to the joy and excitement,” explains Amie. “Firstly, I forgot my bouquet and had to make a speedy return trip with my Bentley driver racing against the clock – a mad dash that ended successfully. During the ceremony, my veil got trodden on by my step-dad accidentally, causing a bit of a veil mishap as both my dad and step-dad escorted me down the aisle, so the first look between both brides was a little chaotic, to say the least. “We were fortunate to have an amazing photographer, who was not only incredibly talented but was also funny, kind, and an invaluable support throughout the day,” continues Amie. “Alongside her, our videographer seamlessly blended into the background, capturing every precious moment. Together, they were the perfect duo, ensuring that every detail of our wedding was documented flawlessly. Their professionalism and camaraderie contributed significantly to the magic of our day, making it truly unforgettable.” FLY AWAY WITH ME “For our honeymoon, we travelled to Singapore and Bali, indulging in a perfect blend of city adventures in Singapore, jungle explorations in Ubud, and tranquil beach escapes at Sanur over the course of two unforgettable weeks,” remembers Amie. “We will cherish the memory of it and look back on the time of exploration, relaxation, and profound connection, solidifying our bond as newlyweds in the most unforgettable way.” REAL WEDDINGS 29
