Your North West Wedding - August/September 2024 (Issue 87)

60 SING YOUR HEART OUT Ian Helm from The Singing Wedding Waiters shares his advice for booking a singing waiter for your big day. Book early so you have plenty of time to discuss your preferences. In turn, your supplier will have time to organise everything how you want it. Where entertainment is concerned, your supplier will need plenty of time to learn new song requests and organise set lists, etc. Booking early will enable your supplier to offer you more choices. Choose entertainment that will be enjoyable for everyone. Of course, it’s your big day, but remember, the whole point of a wedding is to bring everyone together and have all your friends and family celebrate with you. If you make your entertainment too personal, you may not get the reaction you were hoping for. Trust your supplier. If you choose correctly, your supplier will have years of experience and will know what works best. Take advantage, trust their expertise and take their advice. Ask plenty of questions. Your supplier will be more than happy to answer all your questions, as it’s part of the job to make sure you know exactly what to expect on the day. Be sure you have the complete picture. Does your supplier provide the necessary PA system and lighting? Do they accept requests? Do requests need to be submitted in advance? Check with your venue regarding their entertainment policy. Some venues have restrictions on noise levels and may have sound limiters or sensors that your supplier needs to be aware of. Some may only allow acoustic, non-amplified music. There will probably be a curfew in place that dictates when entertainment needs to stop. Be sure not to book and pay for entertainment beyond that time. Aim to have an amazing, fun, and joyful wedding celebration rather than strive for perfection. Things don’t always go according to plan, so don’t allow your day to be spoiled by worrying over the finer details. Remember to enjoy the day. Everyone, from your caterer to your florist, wants you to have an amazing day. You planned everything, you started early, and the day has now arrived, so let everyone do their best work while you relax and let it all happen. Make memories, have fun, live in the moment and make the most of every second! The Singing Wedding Waiters www.singingweddingwaiters.co.uk SHINE LIKE A STAR Lauren Shaw from Magic Mirror – Face Painting and Glitter Art in Lancashire reveals her tips for planning your wedding entertainment. Start planning early and think about the entertainment experience you and your partner want to enjoy with your guests. What would make it personal and memorable for you? What services do you need to research to make that happen? The possibilities are endless! Once you have an idea of what you’re looking for, see what’s available in your area. Ask around for recommendations and start to compile a shortlist of your favourite suppliers. Read reviews and check availability with your favourite suppliers. Ask what equipment they provide and what they’ll need from you, check their policies, and ask about the insurance they have in place. After you’ve made an enquiry, suppliers might be able to hold your date for a certain period of time while you shop around. Once you’ve found what you’ve been looking for and you’re happy with the agreement, pay the deposit as soon as possible to get it locked in, and make sure you get everything in writing. Give the supplier all the details they need to ensure your celebrations run smoothly, and communicate with them closer to the time to make sure they have everything they need. For your peace of mind, avoid last-minute stress by communicating all arrangements in advance and giving them the contact details of somebody from your wedding party in case they need to check anything.
