Our inspiration does not solely come from the world of weddings. Fashion, interior design, culture and world politics all play an important part in informing our predictions of what will happen next. At my flower studio in the Lake District I’ve already started to see some new and exciting changes emerging, which I think will develop over the year ahead. One key trend is the return of the waterfall bouquet. This has a subtle difference to the shower bouquet (which is also making a comeback) in that it cascades forward in a full flurry of flowers and foliage, rather than coming to a point. It also has a softer and fuller finish at the bottom, think the splash pool at the bottom of the waterfall, hence the name.” – Valerie Edgar from Flowers by Valerie Jayne. “Front-facing bridal bouquets show off blooms to maximum effect and can be held in a variety of ways.” – Lynne Godfrey Symonds from élégance en fleurs. “My predictions for flowers in particular bouquets can be summed up in three words: sustainability, colour and texture. Everyone is trying to save money as well as help the environment, so couples will be looking for more sustainable displays moving into 2023. Think about what will you do with your flowers after the big day. Can you use them as gifts after the wedding or keep them on display in your home for years to come?” – Jo Walls from The Alternative Florist. “I’m so excited for 2023 – I think it’s going to be the year of unconventional and doing things exactly how you want to! There’s going to be gorgeous, romantic and blousy pastels with natural styling at one end of the spectrum, and disco-style sparkle and pops of colour at the other. There’s also a more earthy colour palette using natural and rust hues created using a mix of fresh and dried flowers and foliage for a boho look.” – Abbey James from Fleurs&Ink.
