Your North West Wedding - August/September 2022 (Issue 75)

DELECTABLE delights The latest cake trends Nowadays, a cake is more than just something sweet to eat, it’s a work of art that can tie the whole day together. To help narrow down your choice, we chatted to some of the region’s finest suppliers and asked for their 2023 trend predictions. “For 2023, I think we will see a continuation of people craving more natural elements, which bodes well for the type of rustic and minimal cakes that I make. I think we will see more raw textures and unfinished edges, like the texture of a sponge left slightly naked to showcase it’s natural beauty, or rough textured buttercream, mimicking that of bare plaster, which has become increased popular throughout interiors.” – Rachael Spence from Lone Wolf Bakery. www.lonewolfbakery.co.uk www.facebook.com/loveatfirstbitebyamber “Wedding cakes are becoming more modern, and there are a lot of geometric shapes being used, especially as spacers. I think we will see a lot more square cakes in 2023, with contemporary finishes such as concrete icing.” – Katey Melici from Cakes by Katey. www.facebook.com/kateymelici “Wedding trends are fast evolving, with cake props and new techniques being debuted practically every week! So what’s happening in 2023? In terms of wedding cake flavours, I’m seeing a lot of classic options. Think of a zesty lemon sponge with buttercream and a sharp, sweet lemon curd filling. My most popular flavour is white chocolate and raspberry, with practically every couple choosing this for their wedding cake. This flavour is definitely not going anywhere soon!” – Daljeet Bawa from At Home Bakes. www.athomebakes.co.uk “Vibrant and bold colours are being used with unusual shapes such as hearts, flowers and arches.” – Amber Shankland from Love At First Bite by Amber.
