Your North West Wedding - October/November 2019 (Issue 58)

Danielle Harvey welcomed a stay at North Lakes Hotel & Spa SO SPA, SO GOOD A fter a long drive, and arriving to Penrith in less than pleasing weather conditions, my husband and I were a little deflated to say the least! However, one step inside North Lakes Hotel & Spa Penrith and our woes quickly melted away, literally, as we were greeted with a warm and toasty open fire in the reception area. With atmospheric moodlighting, inviting sofas and rustic-chic Scandi-style décor – and that was just the lobby – we were excited to see the rest of the hotel and our mini-break felt well underway! When exploring what was on offer here, I could easily see how perfect this venue is for weddings. Firstly, brides can indulge in some much-need R&R in the luxurious spa; the facilities are second to none creating the ultimate tranquil atmosphere. I made the most of an early morning swim in the 13-metre heated leisure pool, followed by whiling away some time in the whirlpool, sauna and steam room. Not one for relaxing, my personal trainer husband hit the gym, and was so giddy when he saw the high-end equipment on offer – it was the best gym he’d been too which is quite a claim! The hotel offers numerous spa packages for groups and couples; for total indulgence, a complete choice of spa treatments, from facials to pedicures is available, performed by expert therapists using Caudalie, CND Vinylux & Shellac and MII products. Both complete foodies, dining here was a delight. The FYR restaurant is an open-fire grill where you can watch your chosen dish be cooked to perfection. Once again, we were in awe of the furnishing, exposed brick work, natural branches creating partitions, and painted scenes of the Lake District it was an atmospheric space to enjoy our evening meal. The staff were oh-so attentive, and choosing our courses was too difficult with it all sounding tempting. After much deliberation, our beefburger (his choice) and kebab of salmon, monk fish and prawns were placed on the fire to be cooked, while we headed to the Taste Table – an option for starter – packed to the brim with seafood, artisan cured meats, breads and salads. The main, as expected was divine, and eyes bigger than our bellies we opted for dessert – well I did! When tying the knot here you’d be rest assured the catering for your wedding day would be award- winning. Options for the big-day would be the The Veroda Suite, modern and stylish it can accommodate larger weddings of 180 day guests and 200 evening attendees. Whereas the smaller, more intimate Little Martindale suite is perfect for cosy, winter nuptials of up to 28 guests day and night. Each area and part of the day will flow seamlessly together from greeting guests with welcome drinks in the hotel’s reception space, to saying ‘I do’ and then dancing then night away, followed by breakfast the next day and spa treatments before jetting off on honeymoon – you really have everything you could need all under one roof here at North Lakes Hotel & Spa!
