Your North East Wedding - November/December 2023 (Issue 59)

Q&A Beauty These North East experts answer your hair and beauty dilemmas OLDER & WISER I’m a mature bride and don’t want to be slathered in make-up. What should I look for in an artist and what kind of make-up should I go for? When choosing your make-up artist, consider the styles that you like and research people in your local area or close to your venue. Look at their work on social media or their website and see if they have experience with clients in your age group, either mothers-of-the-bride or brides. Be mindful of any filters used on photographs, as their skin should look realistic. Get in touch with artists that you like the look of and ask questions to ensure they’re a good fit for you. When it comes to actual make-up, mature skin looks amazing with a radiant and hydrated base. Mists, serums, and moisturisers, followed by an illuminating primer, give a ‘lit from within’ bridal glow, while light coverage foundation or a tinted moisturiser evens skin tone, avoiding that ‘caked on’ look. Avoid heavy matte finishes or anything too sparkly, as these can enhance and highlight fine lines and texture. Softly defined eyes and brows are really flattering and photograph beautifully, and for lips, choose satin and creamy textured lipsticks to make them appear fuller. What do you suggest? Go with your gut; it’s your day and your look! Once your mam sees you in your dress with your hair styled, she will have a totally different view. A low, loose ponytail can actually be the most glamorous of all and is also a big trend for late 2023 brides. Look at Pinterest and make a moodboard of different ponytails you like. This is a good way to show your stylist what you want and is great for sharing your vision with your mam. Too many people think of a ponytail as being hair shoved up for the gym or for keeping cool. Sure, that’s sometimes the case, but for weddings, it’s a classic, sleek style that looks incredible. Ruth Moore www.instagram.com/ruthmoorehair www.fallenstarphotography.co.uk 68
