Find out more: www.wynyardhall.co.uk FASHIONFORWARD After substantial remodelling in 2021, Newcastle Cathedral will host its first large-scale exhibition from February 16th to March 24th, 2022. A Century of Wedding Gowns will showcase wedding dresses and accessories from the last 140 years collected and curated by Sunderland-based Kevin Thornhill. He studied Art and Design at Manchester University to work in theatre wardrobe. After serving his time with London theatres and the Emanuels where he was a member of the team making Diana, Princess of Wales, wedding gown before returning to the North East to run his own wedding business. Now retired, he showcases his wedding gown collection to raise funds for charities. Around 50 gowns will be displayed throughout the property, each with its own story. Some are copies of some of the most well-known royal wedding gowns and tiaras, including the Princess of Wales, Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex. For a small charge, visitors will be able to view these and designer gowns by Coco Chanel, Norman Hartnell, Elizabeth Emanuel, and two gowns by Bruce Oldfield worn by the daughters of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland. The curator will give regular guided tours of the exhibition, and he will also compere a fashion show of historic dresses on Thursday 10th March at 7.30pm. The Cathedral is a spectacular place for weddings and receptions. The venue’s team is keen to support local businesses, and wedding suppliers are invited to showcase their companies at Newcastle Cathedral on March 19th.
