Your North East Wedding - March/April 2021 (Issue 43)

FLOWERS 53 PLANNING SO GRAEMA VENUS AT STICKY SPONGE The wedding cake is one of the important items to help make your big day extra special and will be pictured and remembered for years to come. It doesn’t matter whether you’re getting married in a grand venue with hundreds of guests or celebrating in a cosy pub with friends. We make sure choosing your cake is a beautiful experience that complements your day, its theme and venue. But more importantly, remember it’s your wedding and the two people that the cake should be designed for is you. The cost of your cake will depend on the design and the number of servings. A lot of skill and time goes into the construction of cakes, and some design elements can take several days (sometimes months) to create. Many cake designers will copy other designs but fail to have the skill and talent to recreate what you want to the same standard. Before ordering, make sure you have an approximate idea of the number of guests that you’re inviting so you can choose the right size, don’t wait for them all to RSVP before ordering. Your final wedding cake price depends on final design requirements. This depends on the amount of work and materials involved in creating the cake. Our advice is to be honest about your budget so your cake designer knows what’s possible and what would work best. We always advise that we deliver your cake for you where possible and charge a small amount to cover the costs. The cakes are delicate fragile items and one of the most stressful parts of this job can be the delivery. It is our responsibility to get your cake to your venue safe and sound and make sure it is set up correctly. Your wedding is about you both, the love that you share, and celebrating that with your guests. Flavours, textures, and aromas provide experiences that linger, evoke memories, and create new ones. You don’t have to go with trends, choose the flavours and a design that you love. Here are some of my top tips to help couples navigate through the wedding planning process. As soon as you book your venue start to look around for suppliers such as florists, cake makers, photographers and more as they can get booked up years in advance. Even if couples don’t know all the wedding details yet, they can still book companies as only basic information is needed at this time. I’ve seen many couples disappointed because they didn’t realise this and have missed out on their desired businesses. Make sure to visit wedding fairs as suppliers and venues often have special offers available during them. Always confirm special deals before booking a company; this includes discounts and full descriptions of what you have agreed with prices in writing. This is important, especially if your wedding is two to three years away. Try and view your venue the same time of year as your wedding; this will help you visualise the day and see how the gardens will look, which areas need more decoration and where outside drinks receptions could be held. Make sure to double-check everything; this is where a good planner will be invaluable as they will contact all suppliers to ensure that they have the right timings, names, delivery addresses, quantities, sizes, special request information and more. Always get a mobile/emergency number for businesses in case of any difficulties. Then you’re ready to relax and trust that you’ve done everything possible to make your day fantastic.
