LOOKING YOUR BEST 67 www.jona thanstocktonphotography.com JUST PEACHY I struggle with dark circles and I want to cover them up on our special day. What steps can I take to achieve this? One of my favourite tips to hide unwanted dark under- eye circles is always to make sure the area is treated correctly first with a good eye cream or gel. This will make or break how your concealer will look, your canvas is just as important as your colour, texture and product. Generally, light brings the skin forward and reduces dark circles, while darker tones add depth and bring everything back. I like to use a peach colour corrector underneath the eye and gently warm the product with my ring finger. The warmth of your skin will smooth the product and make it easier to add. A top tip is to mix the product with a little eye gel for a fresh, flawless finish, and never apply too much as it can sit in any fine lines. Finally, use a small powder brush to apply a little bit of loose powder and set. Contrary to years of being told we can close and reduce the size of our pores, we can’t, but there are few tips we can use to minimise the appearance. Skincare is vital here, making sure our skin is thoroughly cleansed of dirt, oils, and excess sebum every day will help reduce the appearance of pores. Exfoliating weekly with acids such as salicylic will also help to unclog them and always remember to wear your SPF daily, especially when using acids. SPF will also act as a prevention, stopping UV rays from breaking down our collagen and elastin. Primers such as Benefit’s POREfessional helps fill in the pores, while giving a smoother appearance, and soft focus powders will also help to mattify, making them appear smaller. Use a small brush and buff in circular motions for the best finish. However, I do want to mention that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having large pores, skin texture is normal. There’s a beauty movement that’s trying to normalise skin texture; I highly recommend following #normalizeskintexture on Instagram for a welcoming change from your typical highly edited photos. We all have skin texture, don’t be ashamed of it! Victoria Holdstock | Victoria Holdstock Makeup Artist www.victoriaholdstock.co.uk
