Your North East Wedding - Mar/Apr 2020 (Issue 37)

Have the perfect spring wedding with our expert advice  HOT TOPIC FLOWER POWER Q: For our spring wedding we want bold flowers to reflect the time of year. What would you suggest? First of all, I love spring weddings! They ooze colour and I adore it when couples get brave as it makes wedding flowers so interesting and fun. Spring is very popular for weddings and rightly so as it’s a beautiful time of year. There are so many options to choose from but if I had to choose a favourite ‘wow’ selection, then I’d include a sweet William. The texture it brings to any bouquet or arrangement is stunningly different, it comes in a mixture of colours but the dark red burgundy is very pretty. To go with this I’d put ranunculus peach, acacia yellow, veronica pink, callisterphus deep purple, limonium scar, lavender, cornflower blue, craspedia and thaspi. This will give a bright, wild and just picked-style to suit the season perfectly. I do have a couple going for this look in May and I’m very excited to see the outcome! What tips do you have for us? We’re so excited that boho weddings are still a key trend going into 2020 because as far as festival weddings and boho vibes go, we’ve got you covered! We love a festival-style celebration but be prepared for the British weather! Our top tip for outdoor weddings is to make sure there’s a seamless rain plan in place. At The Barn on The Bay, we can bring those music festival vibes to our converted barn. Couples can get married on the dunes overlooking the beautiful Druridge Bay coastline, or under a star tent in our paddock. Bands can be brought inside to get the barn rocking to the sound of live music as well as catering vans to give guests a less formal meal and decorations can be used to bring your personality to the barn. How can we incorporate spring in our photos? There are so many ways to bring a fresh spring feel to your wedding, regardless of whether you’re blessed with clear blue skies or find yourself under brollies in April showers! My first idea would be flowers – you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to spring bloom. Bring the outside in with wildflowers or sprinkle pastel colours through your bouquets and buttonholes, I love photography soaked in colour and gorgeous details I can carry through the story of your day. I’d always suggest talking to your florist and working closely with them. If its nature you adore, find a venue that makes the most of its surroundings and is filled with daylight! As a photographer, I love natural light and spring is fab for this as the days become longer. We’re gifted more time with natural light, which is always more flattering than flash. If British weather permits, I’ll always encourage my couples to be outside in the elements, walking through wheat fields, climbing trees or walking in the sea. Embrace the beautiful scenery and plan a mini adventure with your photographer. The wedding album will be filled with your personalities and bespoke moments.
