USE THE FORCE When a Stormtrooper gatecrashed the wedding Janice and Karl’s guests knew they were in for a surprise Images courtesy of Eye of the Tyne Photography I t was very much a case of family intervention when it came to Jan and Karl’s first date. “Karl’s sister was my beautician, plus both our mums knew each other,” says the bride. “They conspired to get us to meet, taking Karl to the shop where I worked one weekend to get us talking. Their plan worked – Karl immediately quizzed his mum and sister on how they knew me, and before long we’d organised our first date of coffee and a trip to the cinema.” It was four years later when the groom popped the question. “I’m a huge Disney nut and we’d just arrived at Disneyland Paris for a holiday,” continues Jan. “Karl literally proposed in our hotel room the moment we arrived! He didn’t want to do it in the park because I’m incredibly shy – he thought I might have run away!” It took the couple around 10 months to plan their wedding, with Jan doing most of the organising.
