I didn’t want the bridesmaids to completely match and wanted them to be able to wear styles they were comfortable in. My friend was also seven months pregnant, so a few dress changes were needed, but they all looked lovely. They all wore silver shoes and had their hair and make-up how they wanted. We had singer Danny Gruff perform throughout the day. I had grown up watching him sing in local pubs and events, and he has always been a great entertainer. I wanted something lively and fun in the afternoon, and he certainly delivered. I gave him an unusual song for me to walk down the aisle, but he sang it beautifully, which meant a lot to me and Sam. For the evening, we had a DJ from Happy Sounds Mobile Disco who was great and played everything we wanted. Sam and his best men wore Hugo Boss chequered suits and waistcoats, which we hired from Moss Bros. The other groomsmen wore their own navy suits. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but it looked really good and was a bit different! I wore a Stella York blush and lace dress from Fern Hart Bridalwear. I’m a curvy bride, and it fitted my shape perfectly. My seamstress made some adjustments, added lace off-the-shoulder straps and shortened the length amongst other bits and bobs. As Sam had bought cowboy-style shoes, I bought some white satin lace-up versions for the evening that were so comfy! We hired Piggin Delicious and had a relaxed barbecue for the reception and Chinese chicken curry for the evening. We used our cake for dessert and had a sweet table. I made an order of the day and welcome sign out of my daughter’s old cot bed. I also made a savoury snack stand from two clothes stands, and a memory stand to remember my dad, brother and nan. It was an old ladder, which I painted and decorated with rose garlands and pictures of them. REAL WEDDINGS 39
