THROUGH THE LENS Our December wedding is going to be held in the late afternoon and I know we’ll lose the light very quickly. What are the must-have shots? The must-have shots are different for every couple and also photographer, as everyone’s artistic eye is completely different. Low light is what makes winter weddings all that bit different, December is exciting as it’s up to the photographer to challenge the light! You’ll want photographs of the two of you and group photos in what light you do have as a priority, so bear in mind the time of sunset and plan ahead. However, low light can create lots of different kinds of images in comparison to a typical summer wedding. For example, the use of extra flash and different lighting can give a whole new dimension to the standard couples portraits. I also love a sparkler shot which works really well in low light conditions too! What would you suggest? A great way of subtly adding a festive theme into your confetti shot is by choosing a confetti mix that will give the illusion of a flurry of snow. There are a few ways you can achieve this. One is by using Snowfetti™, which is artificial snow confetti made out of blown corn. It’s not only water-soluble and fully biodegradable but the texture is so light and fluffy – remarkably like real snow! Although remember that water-soluble confetti like this can’t be used in wet weather or indoors. Alternatively, use biodegradable tissue paper confetti in a circle shape. Using white, ivory and cream to create the look of snow, you can also add a touch of metallic colour such as gold or silver to catch a sparkly glint in the light, just like real snow. If you want to use real flower petals for your snow-look confetti moment then choose an ivory petal mix. You can personalise your confetti cones or boxes with the Christmas song lyrics Let it Snow to make it extra festive. A tip is if you’re getting married late in the day, remember it will get dark early so work with your photographer and venue to identify a place to get a good confetti shot. I love winter weddings! We offer autumn and winter flavours for my wedding cakes, I feel it’s a really special time of year for eating foods that remind us of our childhood. Flavours like chocolate orange fudge cake and our delicious sticky toffee pudding cake are popular for this time of year. You absolutely can’t beat our cinnamon swirl and pecan praline cake, anyone who walks into our kitchen on a baking day when this one is in the oven can’t resist it! The design of the cake is really important; Christmas always lends itself well to reds and rich greens, but with a current trend around gold and metallics, it’s the perfect time of year to add a little sparkle. Of course, a traditional white on white, maybe with a little glitter will always look good, especially if it snows. I think Christmas is a great time for a cosy wedding and trends such as dessert tables are a great way to create a feeling of togetherness and warmth.
