44 L ucy and George’s adventure started when they met at an after-prom party when they were 16. “We have a very similar sense of humour and personalties so immediately hit it off initially as friends, with it blossoming into a relationship about 18 months later,” says Lucy. George expressed his feelings about getting married multiple times to Lucy and tried putting her off the idea. Little did she know he was actually tricking her and planning something big. What started as a normal Friday transformed into one of their most important days together as a couple. During a walk with their dog Hugo, George gave Lucy a poem and asked her to read it aloud. “He had used the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme tune as a basis for the poem, starting with “This is a story all about how...” the poem went on to tell the story of our seven-year relationship. He finished with “As I kneel here today, I wanted to ask…”, and as I looked up from the poem George was down on one knee.” SETTING THE SCENE The special day was set for the ninth of June and they both knew the perfect place to hold the reception. “My parents live in an old converted windmill in Warwickshire, and we always knew we wanted to have our reception in the grounds of the house as the views are amazing,” Lucy adds. The church was only a few minutes’ walks away which meant the guests could walk to the reception with ease.  The lovebirds chose to have a stretch tent to hold the reception in as they could create a shape that fit their setting and style. “We did all the decorations ourselves, we chose long rustic wooden tables, so we could avoid large amounts of white linen,” says Lucy. “I ran hessian table runners down the middle, scattering large and small candles and winding ivy and gypsophila in between.” All the decorations fitted their rustic country theme beautifully, especially the use of an old wooden ladder covered in ivy, glass baubles and fairylights.  It was important to the nearlyweds that the favours were personal. “We regularly ski with my family and the drink of choice for our hipflasks whilst skiing is Jägermeister, so we decided to have little individual bottles on everyone’s table place.” The couple recall a wonderful moment where everyone drunk it together after every speech.
