Your West Midlands Wedding - Oct/Nov 2019 (Issue 64)
REAL WEDDINGS 37 D aniel and Katie first met during a night out and became instantly drawn to each other. Their love bloomed from there and grew into a strong bond that left Daniel ready to pop the question right by the Statue of Liberty. “We had gone to New York to celebrate Dan’s 30 th with both sets of parents. The proposal was the day after his birthday and it was a complete surprise, although everyone on the trip knew that it was happening,” Katie says. The special day was set for the 2 nd of June, 2018 and their new adventure began. SETTING THE SCENE Edgbaston Old Church was the ideal venue for the couple as they both desired a church wedding. “After going to visit Edgbaston Old Church and meeting the vicar we decided that this was the church for us. We hadn’t given much thought to the reception venue, it was the vicar who suggested Edgbaston Golf Club to us,” Katie adds. After visiting the possible reception venue, the lovebirds knew it was perfect for them due to the breathtaking views and the fact that it didn’t feel like a city setting. It was important that the decorative touches were kept simple and personal. The couple brought tubs of love hearts and used personalised labels for the wrappers to give to the guests as favours. The centrepieces matched their travel theme perfectly as they designed them themselves. “We choose a picture of us both from the destination of the table name which we placed on mini easels, then had a postcard-type picture of a landmark from that destination,” shares Katie. “We had fake flowers in a vase to complement the colour theme and these were placed on a circular cutout of map-themed wallpaper and hired someone to dress the tables and chairs on the day.” The table names reflected the couple’s journey together as they picked cities around the world that they had visited and of course New York had to be the top table. A nice little touch was the transport, what better way to arrive to your wedding then by turning up in a white London-style taxi! LOOKING THE PART It was fifth time lucky when the bride found her stunning Ronald Joyce dress called Helaine . At first, the bride had a picture in her head of what she wanted but it was only when the shop assistant pulled out the special dress which completely changed her mind. “I was looking for plainer dresses as I didn’t think I would want anything too detailed, but when I tried it on I just knew that it was the dress for me.” Katie matched it with a cathedral-length veil to finish
